The "Concerto di Capodanno" (New Year's Eve Concert) is a long standing tradition in Italy, and is seen as one of the most important dates of the year for classical music lovers, competing in popularity with the famous Vienna New Year's Concert. This year's Venetian concert focuses on Italian music, and once again will be held at the Teatro La Fenice - the city's most prestigious music venue.
Although the programme is still being drawn up for this year, the New Year Concert usually has two parts: the first orchestral part, played by the Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, and a second part which also involves the soloists and chorus.
This second part includes the most famous arias of Italian opera (Rossini, Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, Puccini and Leoncavallo among others) performed by great international performers, as well as pieces of ballet and some popular songs.
The end of the concert traditionally comes from Verdi, with his interpretation of Va 'pensiero from Nabucco and the Brindisi from La Traviata to welcome in the new year.
Please note: Your tickets will be delivered to your hotel.
Your Venue —
A long and rather tragic history has seen the venue burn down twice, but each restoration has ensured its neo-classical exterior and gilded interiors are returned to their former glory.
The most recent reconstruction work began in 2001 and culminated with the reopening of the theatre on December 14, 2003, with an inaugural concert of works by Beethoven, Wagner and Stravinsky.
