Il Geco —
The apartments at Il Geco are situated in the historical setting of Rione Malve, one of the oldest districts of the Sasso Caveoso. Built on natural caves that have been excavated and extended over millennia, guests will have the unique opportunity to stay in these ancient, but thoroughly renovated dwellings.
Marvel at cosy rooms with charming furnishings and spiral staircases, as you descend into these incredible pale limestone buildings. Il Geco has tried to preserve the style and essence of typical homes while supplying all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. Geco Blu Deluxe Room (45 m²)
After entering through your private entrance and descending the spiral staircase, you'll find your cosy Geco Blu Deluxe Room. This apartment is built out of limestone blocks, and complete with a pointed arch. Stretch out on the double bed and cook yourself something tasty on the four-burner stove. To top it off, you'll also have a balcony overlooking the historic centre.

The Geco Verde Apartments are located in a natural cave with a spiral staircase that leads to a mezzanine with a sofa bed and relaxation area. Outside the entrance to your apartment, you'll find a pretty private courtyard, perfect for soaking up the sunshine.

The perfect size to accommodate two guests, Geco Giallo has its own private entrance leading into the charming limestone property. Sleep soundly in a double bed and wake each morning to incredible views of Sasso Caveoso from the window overlooking the historic centre.

Start the day with a nourishing breakfast served directly in your apartment with a variety of sweet and savoury options, including fresh fruit. Matera is home to a collection of cosy tavernas and upmarket cave restaurants, perfect for trying some of the local cuisines.
Your Time
Head out to admire the warren of pale limestone churches, monasteries, palaces and houses rising above the caves in Sasso Cavesoso, all balanced on the edge of a ravine. By day, they are beautiful, but the sight of the buildings lit up at dusk is truly breathtaking.
European capital of culture in 2019, Matera has excellent museums and rich culinary traditions. Try one of the cave restaurants for a hearty meal, and sip on a campari spritz in the main square as the sun goes down and the local throng to cafés and bars.

Transfers:
It may be possible to add return airport transfers at the next stage of the booking process for an additional fee (flight inclusive offers only - subject to availability). For inbound transfer arrangements, please confirm with your transfer provider when you arrive. Alternatively, please check with the reception of your accommodation. If you still require assistance, please call the transfer provider directly.
Car Hire:
For the freedom to explore your destination at your own pace, Sixt car hire may be added at the next stage of the booking process for an additional fee (flight inclusive offers only - subject to availability and Sixt office opening times upon your arrival). Please note you cannot be guaranteed a specific make of car within a certain group. The lead name on the booking will be confirmed as the named driver.
