Your Destination

The beautiful island of Zakynthos is located on the west side of Greece and is famous for its natural beauty. Amazing beaches are the island’s main attraction, along with the endangered Caretta Caretta turtle, which chooses some of these beaches as the place to lay its eggs! For visitors looking for a combination of history, culture, and cuisine, the island’s capital - the town of Zante - is the place to be.

 

After an earthquake of 1953, much of this charming seafront town was rebuilt in its classical Venetian style, but on Solomos Square, travellers can still visit the 16th-century church of Agios Nikolaos, the only building on the square to survive the disaster. In the maze of streets elsewhere in the town, visitors will find a wealth of shops and restaurants, including traditional tavernas where you can savour delicious seafood dishes and enjoy live music.

 

At the end of the day, it’s worth taking the short walk up Strani Hill to admire the view of Zante town and the surrounding coast. Legend has it that it was here that the island’s beloved poet, Dionysios Solomos felt so inspired by the landscape that he wrote the Greek national anthem! Soak up the beautiful sunset over this ancient town, and perhaps feel as inspired as Solomos.

If your passport describes you as a British Citizen, you do not need a visa to enter Greece. For non-British citizens, you should check the current entry requirements on the website of the Greek Foreign Ministry.

Health

Brexit 
If you are travelling to the EU, the UK government recommends that you have six months left on your passport on the date of your arrival to an EU country. You should also check when your passport was renewed.

If you renewed a 10-year adult passport before it expired, extra months may have been added to your passport’s expiry date. These extra months over 10 years will not count towards the 6 months that must be remaining. Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As of July 10th 2020, the UK Government has approved that travel to Greece is allowed without the need to quarantine upon return, thanks to an 'air-bridge' agreement. Greece has been listed as a 'green/amber' destination and is therefore considered safe enough to visit without requiring 14 days of self-isolation upon reentering the UK. Tourists choosing to book stopover flights may not be permitted to return without quarantining if the country they stop off in is not also listed as green/amber by the UK Government. Please note that this information is constantly being reviewed and may be subject to change.
