Adored by tourists and locals alike for its natural beauty, the island of Zakynthos, known as Zante, is located on the western side of Greece.

The island’s impressive beaches are truly a highlight, as well as being home to the rare Caretta turtle. Head to the town of Zakynthos to soak up the history and culture, and try local gastronomic delights.

Following an earthquake in 1953, much of this charming seafront town was rebuilt in a classical Venetian style, but on Solomos Square, travellers can still visit the 16th-century church of Agios Nikolaos, the only building on the square to survive the disaster. In the maze of streets elsewhere in the town, visitors will find a wealth of shops and restaurants, including traditional tavernas where you can savour delicious seafood dishes and enjoy live music.
