A paradise island famed for its whitewashed towns perched on high volcanic cliffs, Santorini is a holiday destination that's sure to be memorable. Formed from a cataclysmic volcanic eruption in the 17th century BC, Santorini has a breathtakingly unique landscape, and Oia is perhaps the most photographed town on the island.
Here, you'll have the opportunity to wander between white houses and blue-domed churches, savouring stunning views of the caldera. To escape the tourist throngs in Oia, travel to some of the other picturesque villages on the island - Santorini’s capital, Fira, combines natural beauty and a chic, cosmopolitan vibe, along with a great selection of restaurants and bars. To get a taste for local life on the island, Pyrgos is a small village just 8 km from Fira, which is filled with authentic eateries and traditional Greek charm.
If you have the time, it’s also worth exploring more of the landscape of this unique island. The hike from Fira to Oia will take a few hours, but it provides the best views of the caldera and the unique geography of Santorini.
