Rhodes —
The capital of the island of Rhodes, Rhodes Town is an exciting choice for a break in the sunshine, especially for history lovers. This destination contains the largest preserved medieval city in the world, so when you’re not taking time to relax on the beach or visiting sights such as the city’s windmills or the Rhodes Aquarium, make sure you take a walk along the old fortifications and experience this city’s ancient atmosphere.
For more views of the Old Town, head to the city’s ancient acropolis on St. Stephen’s Hill, where you can see the ruins of the stadium, the white marble Odeon, and the restored Temple of Apollo, a popular spot for watching the sunset. Back inside the city’s walls, experience Rhodes’ multicultural past as you wander past the iconic Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, Gothic churches, Byzantine churches, and a working ‘hammam’.
