Ornos —
Set on the south-west coast of Mykonos, Ornos offers a refined and relaxed alternative to the island’s high-energy hotspots. While the iconic skyline of Mykonos — with its windmills and whitewashed houses — draws visitors to the lively lanes of Chora, Ornos is prized for its calm bay, soft sands and effortless elegance. Sheltered from strong winds and lined with stylish beach clubs and cafés, it is an ideal base for travellers seeking serenity without sacrificing easy access to the island’s cosmopolitan heart.
Must-sees:
- Ornos Beach: A crescent-shaped bay with calm, shallow waters, perfect for swimming and relaxed beach days.
- Chora (Mykonos Town): A maze of cobbled streets, boutiques and waterfront restaurants just minutes away.
- Kalafati Beach: A larger, open beach on the east coast, renowned for watersports and sailing conditions.
- Lia Beach: A more secluded stretch of golden sand, ideal for peaceful sunbathing.
- Armenistis Lighthouse: A dramatic viewpoint on the northern tip of the island, famous for sunset views over the Aegean Sea.
Culinary culture:
Dining in Ornos blends Cycladic simplicity with contemporary flair. Enjoy freshly grilled fish, seafood pasta and classic Greek dishes prepared with olive oil, herbs and local produce. Beachfront restaurants offer leisurely lunches by the water, while evenings invite candlelit dinners paired with crisp white wines or chilled rosé. Nearby Chora expands the choice with fine dining, international cuisine and lively cocktail bars.
Dive deeper:
Beyond the beach, Ornos is perfectly positioned for exploration. Take a boat taxi to hidden coves along the coast, discover quieter villages inland, or spend the afternoon wandering the galleries and boutiques of Mykonos Town. For a change of pace, explore lesser-known beaches or follow coastal paths that reveal sweeping sea views and moments of unexpected tranquillity, a softer side of Mykonos often missed.
Good to know:
Ornos is located about 10 minutes from Mykonos Airport and Mykonos Port by car. The best time to visit is from May to September, when warm weather and calm seas enhance beach life. The local currency is the euro (€).
