It’s one of the most upbeat areas in Crete, with restaurants, bars and clubs pervading the waterfront and coming alive when the sun goes down. Water sports are found here in abundance, along with a trio of sandy beaches featuring secluded coves.
For a dose of culture, head to the Minoan ruins near Malia and take a day trip to Rethymnon to see its Venetian architecture.
