All the islands of Santorini are still active volcanoes and are probably the only volcanoes in the world whose craters in located in the sea.

Santorini is very much worth exploring, especially if you are looking for a romantic escape in Greece. The vivid colours of the pink flowers stand out beautifully against the white houses with their blue roofs, making it a memorable sight every day. It's famous for its incredible sunsets, which can be admired from the pretty town of Oia.

Formed from a cataclysmic volcanic eruption in the 17th century BC, Santorini has a breathtakingly unique landscape, and Oia is perhaps the most photographed town on the island. Here, you'll have the opportunity to wander between white houses and blue-domed churches, savouring stunning views of the caldera.

To escape the tourist throngs in Oia, travel to some of the other picturesque villages on the island - Santorini’s capital, Fira, combines natural beauty and a chic, cosmopolitan vibe, along with a great selection of restaurants and bars. To get a taste for local life on the island, Pyrgos is a small village just 8 km from Fira, which is filled with authentic eateries and traditional Greek charm.

If you have the time, it’s also worth exploring more of the landscape of this unique island. The hike from Fira to Oia will take a few hours, but it provides the best views of the caldera and the unique geography of Santorini. History lovers might also wish to visit the Akrotiri Archaeological Site, where the unearthed remains of an ancient Minoan town are preserved.

The skyline of Mykonos, characterised by windmills and whitewashed houses, is one of the most famous sights in Greece. But behind the island's beautiful exterior lies more. While the island's capital, Chora, is a maze of cobbled streets and cosmopolitan restaurants and bars, travellers can find tranquil beaches and unspoilt towns along the island's 80km coastline.

Just 12 km from the capital is Lia Beach, a secluded stretch of beach perfect for those who want to swim and enjoy the sun. Near Kalafati, you will also find a larger beach that offers plenty of opportunities for exciting water sports. End your day on the northern tip of the island at the atmospheric Armenistis Lighthouse, the perfect spot for a breathtaking Greek sunset over the Aegean Sea.
