DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN HERAKLION
After landing, pick up your hire car directly at the airport and begin your journey across the island. As you drive toward your hotel, you’ll catch your first glimpses of Crete’s rugged mountains and deep-blue coastline. Once you’ve settled into your room, take your time to relax or head out for a gentle stroll through the charming, narrow streets of Heraklion. Wander past traditional cafés, lively squares, and Venetian-era buildings before ending your evening with dinner overlooking the shimmering waters of the Aegean Sea.

DAY 2: HERAKLION
Dedicate this day to exploring the legendary Palace of Knossos, the heart of the Minoan civilisation, often regarded as Europe’s very first advanced society. Wander through the sprawling ruins of this ancient complex, dating back to the 5th century BC, and imagine the daily life, rituals, and myths that shaped the world of the early Greeks.
In the afternoon, dive into the lively atmosphere of Heraklion. Stroll along the bustling harbour, walk atop the impressive ramparts, and admire the imposing Koules fortress guarding the entrance to the port. The elegant Venetian Loggia and the city’s remarkable archaeological museum will transport you even further into Crete’s storied past.

DAY 3: HERAKLION → AGIOS NIKOLAOS
Continue your journey eastward as you make your way across the Lassithi Plateau, a peaceful and fertile plain encircled by towering mountains. As you drive, you’ll pass traditional villages, old windmills and vast stretches of cultivated land that showcase Crete’s rural charm. By late afternoon, you will arrive in Agios Nikolaos. Take your time to wander through its lively streets, admire the picturesque harbour and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of its seaside cafés, perfect for a drink as the sun sets over the Mirabello Bay.

DAY 4: AGIOS NIKOLAOS - SPINALONGA ISLAND
Begin your day with an excursion to Spinalonga Island, a cultural treasure rich in history. As you cross the calm waters by boat, the island’s impressive Venetian fortress slowly comes into view. Wander through its stone pathways, abandoned houses and ancient walls, and let the stories of its past inhabitants bring the island’s fascinating heritage to life. In the afternoon, unwind on the stunning beaches of Elounda, Kolokytha or Plaka. Here, soft sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters create the perfect setting for relaxation.

Day 5: Agios Nikolaos - Sissi

Wander through Limnes, known for its charming old mills and peaceful lanes. Continue to Houmeriakos, a small village dotted with numerous traditional churches. Then visit Vryses, where clusters of whitewashed houses seem to cling to the mountainside, offering a glimpse into authentic Cretan life.

DAY 6: AGIOS NIKOLAOS → RETHYMNO

DAY 7: RETHYMNO - MATALA

DAY 9: CHANIA

DAY 10: CHANIA - ELAFONISI
