The town of Ierapetra has a long and interesting ancient history. Being positioned between three continents, the town was referred to as the southernmost gateway of Europe and it flourished through the Minoan, the Ancient Greek, the Roman, and the Byzantine Civilization. In addition, Ierapetra thrived through occupations from the Arabs, the Venetians, and the Turks. 

 

Today when you visit you will find a lively, active seaside town, centred around that magnificent beach. The newly made-over coastal road is ideal for a stroll — buzzing tavernas and bars line the water's edge, ideal for a relaxed lunch or an evening drink with a view of the sea.
