The named driver must present a credit card in their name when collecting the car (credit cards in other names will not be accepted). The named driver must also present a full valid driving licence on the collection of the vehicle and in some cases, a credit card or cash deposit will be required. Please ensure that you check your car hire documents carefully once received as this will advise if there are any taxes/charges to be paid locally as well as potential mileage restrictions. It was Athens that brought the world drama, history, poetry, and philosophy, and a visit to this ancient city offers no end of attractions. Indeed, the towering columns of the 2,000-year-old Parthenon still dominates the city skyline, a homage to the goddess Athena. No visit to the city would be complete without walking up to the Acropolis and admiring its structures: aside from the Parthenon, you can see the Erechtheion, a temple dedicated to Athena and Poseidon, and the Propylaea, the ancient gateway to the hill citadel.

 

Walking through the city is the best way to discover its history. In the shadow of the Acropolis, Plaka is a particularly interesting neighbourhood with a village feel, full of traditional Greek taverns, churches, and smaller museums - as well as the Cine Paris, a charming outdoor cinema with a stunning view of the Acropolis. Elsewhere, don't miss the famous changing of the guards in Constitution Square every hour on the hour.

Entry Requirements 

You must ensure you have a valid passport to travel on.


If your passport describes you as a British Citizen, you do not need a visa to enter Greece. For non-British citizens, you should check the current entry requirements on the website of the Greek Foreign Ministry.

Health

If vaccinations or other preventive measures are required, you will need to visit your health professional at least 8 weeks before your trip. In the event that you are referred to a medical facility for treatment, you should contact your insurance/medical assistance company immediately. 

Please note that passport, visa and health requirements can change. It is every traveller’s responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport, any required visas, and all the necessary vaccinations/health requirements as well as adequate insurance. 

Brexit 
If you are travelling to the EU, the UK government recommends that you have six months left on your passport on the date of your arrival to an EU country. You should also check when your passport was renewed.

If you renewed a 10-year adult passport before it expired, extra months may have been added to your passport’s expiry date. These extra months over 10 years will not count towards the 6 months that must be remaining. Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As of July 10th 2020, the UK Government has approved that travel to Greece is allowed without the need to quarantine upon return, thanks to an 'air-bridge' agreement. Greece has been listed as a 'green/amber' destination and is therefore considered safe enough to visit without requiring 14 days of self-isolation upon reentering the UK. Tourists choosing to book stopover flights may not be permitted to return without quarantining if the country they stop off in is not also listed as green/amber by the UK Government. Please note that this information is constantly being reviewed and may be subject to change.

In order for you to be able to travel safely, the Greek government has stepped up its health control measures when entering the country. All travellers are required to complete the "health protocol" form, https://travel.gov.gr/#/ at least 48 hours before their arrival. A QR code will be generated and must be presented upon departure. Travellers arriving by air from Bulgaria, Romania, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic must have produced a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival.

Please note that as of 4 am on September 3rd 2020, all travellers arriving in Scotland from Greece will have to quarantine for 14 days. Anyone arriving in Wales from the island of Zante will also be required to quarantine for a period of 14 days.

From 4 am on September 9th 2020, all travellers returning from Mykonos to the UK will be required to quarantine for 14 days.
