Meribel

Meribel, a gem nestled in the heart of the Three Valleys, effortlessly blends traditional Alpine charm with world-class skiing and outdoor pursuits. Founded by British Colonel Peter Lindsay in 1938, the resort remains true to its original, rustic Alpine style while offering exceptional sporting and recreational opportunities. Whether you're visiting to enjoy the slopes or explore the vibrant town centre, Meribel promises a uniquely immersive experience.

Must-sees:

  • La Chaudanne: The lively hub of Meribel, home to ski lifts, restaurants, and shops, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks.
  • Meribel Village: A quieter, more authentic part of town, perfect for those looking to escape the crowds and soak in the rustic charm.
  • The Alpine Museum: A hidden gem, showcasing the region's rich history and heritage, providing insight into Meribel’s development from its humble beginnings.

Culinary culture:

Meribel offers a delightful culinary scene that fuses traditional Savoyard fare with modern gastronomic innovation. Savour the region's fondue, raclette, and tartiflette, accompanied by a glass of local Savoyard wine. While après-ski is popular, more than just the slopes are worth exploring. The region’s markets are perfect for sampling local cheeses, meats, and pastries, and for a unique treat, visit the many cafés serving freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolate.

Dive deeper:

For those seeking more than just the main attractions, Meribel offers a variety of enriching experiences. Explore its winter hiking trails, which lead through pristine snow-covered forests, or try snowshoeing for a different perspective of the stunning landscape. Summer transforms the region into an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, offering mountain biking trails, hiking routes, and even white-water rafting on the Isère River.

Good to know:

Meribel enjoys excellent transport links, with easy access to Geneva International Airport (GVA) just under two hours away. The resort is accessible via the Alpine Ski Shuttle, or by train with convenient links from Moutiers. In summer, the town takes on a relaxed, quiet atmosphere, ideal for enjoying the stunning mountain views. The ideal time to visit is during the winter months, from December to March, for skiing, or from June to August for outdoor activities in the warmer weather.
