Corsica —
Situated closer to the Italian mainland than France, Corsica is a unique, sun-soaked island that boasts a wealth of whitewashed beaches, impressive mountains, and quaint towns influenced by both French and Italian history. Its capital, Ajaccio, is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, meaning tourists have the opportunity to visit his ancestral home, Maison Bonaparte, in the city.
In the northern half of the island, you’ll find Bastia, a lively port town where you can sample delicious local wine, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Scandola Nature Reserve. An area only accessible by taking a boat trip from nearby Calvi, it’s worth exploring its rust-coloured, jagged cliffs and caves, while admiring the local wildlife including cormorants and dolphins.
Inland, thrillseekers can tackle the GR20 hiking trail, often named the toughest long-distance trail in Europe, which runs through the island’s mountain range. Watersports-lovers will enjoy exploring Corsica’s 1000km coastline with opportunities for surfing, jet skiing, and diving in the warm waters of the Mediterranean. The perfect destination for a relaxed stay with family or friends, a stay on this one-of-a-kind island is sure to be memorable.
