Lapland

Lapland in winter is a magical experience: a scenic winter wonderland located deep inside the Arctic Circle, this region is blanketed in snow from December to April. Lapland offers a huge variety of activities during the winter. Besides the traditional cross country and downhill skiing there are exciting snowmobile, dog sled and reindeer safaris and for the more adventurous.  Whether you wish to hit the ski slopes or join in some thrilling arctic adventures, you can tailor this break to be as action-packed or as relaxed as you wish with our wide choice of excursions in this winter wonderland.

Winter is the longest of the Lappish seasons and lasts approximately 200 days. In Kittilä on the 11th of December, the Polar Night begins, when the sun does not rise above the horizon. It is an experience in itself. Even though the sun does not appear, there are approximately 6 hours of daylight during the day and the glow from the moon, the snow and the Northern Lights give a fairytale-like atmosphere for the winter activities.

Your Itinerary —

Day 1: Arrival into Kittilä - Muonio
Upon arrival into Kittilä Airport, take a transfer for approx. 1 hour to Muonio and your choice of either Harriniva, Jeris or Torassieppi Hotel. In your chosen hotel you will be accommodated in either cosy double rooms or double cabins. Here you will enjoy welcome drink and dinner in the restaurant.

Day 2: Aurora Snowtrain
Enjoy breakfast in a restaurant and collect your warm winter clothes. This day is free for you to relax, explore the area or book an optional activity. After dinner you will join the Aurora snowtrain - sitting in the heated carriage you will head out across the Lappish landscapes looking out for the Northern lights. Here a hot drink will be served and you have the chance to visit the sauna before an overnight stay.
Day 3: Husky Safari
After breakfast you have some free time to explore the local area. Then in the afternoon you will meet your guide and the happy huskies! After a guided tour of the husky farm and a briefing on driving and safety instructions, you will start the minimum of 15 km husky safari. This will be for 2 people per sled with one driving, and the chance to swap drivers halfway. Enjoy relaxing in the Sauna before dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Snowshoe hire and Arctic Sauna World
Wake up with breakfast in the restaurant. Today you have use of the snowshoes, you can enjoy a walk in the Lappish nature and discovery some dreamy scenery. After dinner you are off to the brand new Jeris Sauna World. Experience 4 different saunas using the four different elements and let the various elements sooth your body and mind. There is also the chance for ice swimming for those brave enough! 

Day 5: Departure
After breakfast. transfer to Kittilä Airport or Muonio bus station for your trip back home.
For Offer 2 - Day 4-8: Rovaniemi 
Take this opportunity to spend your days roaming this fantastic city. Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland in northern Finland, and is known as the "official hometown of Santa Claus". Home to Santa Claus Village, a year-round Christmas themed attraction, this is heaven on earth for festive fanatics. Besides the Christmas festivities, Rovaniemi is also a great springboard from which to explore the Ranua Wildlife Park and the Arkitikum Science Museum.

This remote hotel is perfect for spying the Northern Lights. When they're not taking advantage of the multitude of activities on offer, guests can unwind in one of the 2 saunas, go for a dip in the Jacuzzi or head to the hotel bar for a warming drink in front of the fireplace. Guests can head to the hotel's pine-clad restaurant for food or head to the hotel's fire pit.

Please note: Only 1 sauna is free of charge. The other sauna/Jacuzzi will require a payment to use. 

Hotel Jeris

Located near the sparkling waters of Lake Jerisjärvi, the Hotel Jeris is surrounded by stunning natural scenery and offers guests the opportunity to jump onto a cross country skiing track and snowshoe trail! The hotel's location is ideal for guests looking to explore the incredible natural surroundings while the hotel also boasts cosy accommodation, a restaurant, a cosy pub and even a unique Sauna World ideally located on the shore of Lake Jeris. These saunas, Tapio, Ukko, Ilmatar and Vellamo represent the elements through the mythological gods and goddesses of the region. The Arctic Sauna World opens on December 1st 2019 and will be a highlight of your trip. 

Torassieppi

In Torassieppi guests will find a wide variety of spaces from a cabin village, a caravan park, an organic and local food restaurant, a reindeer farm with museum, husky farm, Winter Village and Aurora Dome luxury tents with an original reindeer farm dates back to 1847. Head here for natural wonders, fabulous hiking trails, tempting restaurant services and the chance to see some lovely animals as well as a wealth of activities that are available. The hotel is situated on the shores of Lake Torassieppi and offers a fantastic location for a cosy stay under the lively sky.

Torassieppi Reindeer Farm visit (In Kittila)

This is a 3-4 hour trip including transfers.

Learn about the culture of the original Lappish reindeer herders in one of the oldest reindeer farms in Finland! Transfer from Harriniva to Torassieppi Reindeer Farm. During the visit of the farm house you will hear about the fascinating history of the family who has lived in the farm until the recent years. You will then visit the rustic little museum on the yard and learn about the reindeer herding in Lapland. Reindeer are already waiting in the fence for you to hop on to the traditional sled and go for a reindeer safari in the forest. The reindeer herder will lead the way in the first sled. Lunch is served in a traditional Lappish kota around an open fire. After the reindeer experience you will have a chance to also see the impressive Winter Village snow hotel right next to the farm. Transfer back to your destination. This program is suitable for those aged 4 years and over.

Snowmobile to the Wilderness (In Kittila)

Transfers: Transfers are included as stated for flight-inclusive offers. Shared airport transfers from Kittilä Aiport to the hotel and Shared transfers from the hotel to Kittila airport or Muonio bus station are included. 

For offer 2: Arctic Bus transfers between Muonio and Rovaniemi is included plus a shared bus transfer from Arctic City Hotel to Rovaniemi Airport.
