Your Itinerary —
Arrive in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, and meet your guide to be transferred to your hotel for check-in. Then its time to start exploring this city. Stroll in People’s Park, where you can meet the locals who love to spend all their daytime in the traditional tea houses. Enjoy a cup of local tea with your new acquaintances, then take a walk around the old town and wander through 'Wide and Narrow Alley' (Kuanzhai Xiangzi). Overnight at your hotel.
After breakfast, you will have your first encounter with a visit to Chengdu's Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. You'll be taken in the morning as this is when the pandas are the most active. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant, then in the afternoon, visit the Jinsha Museum, an archaeological site with collections of history that can be traced back 3000 years! Take a stroll down the old street Jinli, part of the Temple of Marquis, and boasting beautiful buildings in the Qing Dynasty style. Overnight at your hotel.
After breakfast, hit the road towards Leshan (2 hour’s drive). Known for its famous Giant Buddha, visit the 71-metre tall stone statue, built between 713 and 803, that is carved delicately out of a cliff face. You will then visit the Temple of Lingyun & the Temple of Wuyou. Now it is time to take a small cruise on the river Min, for a better view the Giant Buddha from the front. Continue on to Emeishan, the gateway to Mount Emei, one of the country's 4 sacred Buddhist mountains. Lunch included will be included today, and dinner will be at your own leisure. Overnight at your hotel.
Following breakfast, take a cable car up Emei Mountain to reach the Golden Summit. Stare out over impeccable views or look over a sea of clouds, dancing over the mountainside. You will visit the temples of Wannian and the Qingyin Pavillion. As you head back down the mountain, pass by the monkey zone and look over the Yixiantian valley. You will also have time to visit the temples of Baoguo and Fuhu. Enjoy lunch on the mountain and dinner at your own leisure. Overnight at your hotel.
In the morning, enjoy an included breakfast before taking your transfer to Dujiangyan. Halfway through your journey, visit the Western Thousand Buddha Caves, a Buddhist cave temple site. Then you will have the opportunity to visit the ancient village of Ping Le, constructed 2000 years ago! Upon arrival into Dujiangyan, gaze upon the famous Dujiangyan irrigation system, built in 256 BC in the Qin Dynasty under Emperor Qinshihuangdi. This great earth excavation was built as an irrigation and flood control project and is still in use today. Lunch is included, with dinner at your own leisure. Overnight at your hotel.
In the morning, after breakfast, you will first visit the sacred Mount Qingcheng, considered one of the birthplaces of Taoism and one of the most important Taoist centres in China. Climb up the mountain on foot and visit the Jianfu Taoist Temple, followed by the Tianshi Cave, Shangqing Palace and Laojun Pavillion. You will go back down by cable car and cross the Yuecheng Lake by boat, followed by continuing your journey by foot. Lunch is included, with dinner at your own leisure. Overnight at your hotel.
After breakfast, take a morning transfer to the Pixian district of Chengdu. Visit the Sichuan Cuisine Museum of Chengdu to taste local snacks and participate in a Sichuan cuisine cooking class. Here you will learn to cook two typical Sichuan dishes, which you will get to savour as your lunch. Then it is time to head back to Chengdu, where you will enjoy dinner at your own leisure. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 8: Chengdu - Return to UK or Onward Travel to Beijing
After breakfast, take your transfer to the airport for your flight. You will either choose to fly straight back home to the UK or you can add a 3-night extension to Beijing.
Optional Extension in Beijing
When choosing the Beijing extension, take your included internal flight to Beijing and then transfer to your hotel for check-in. The rest of your day will be at leisure with dinner free to indulge in some local cuisine. Overnight at your hotel.
Enjoy your included breakfast at the hotel before heading out to explore the city. You have a Half Day tour to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City included in your stay (excluded meal) with an English Speaking guide to help you understand the culture and history of these world-famous sites. With a history stretching back 3 millennia, this beautiful city has much to offer. In your free time visit the Great Wall of China, the iconic lakeside Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, Jingshan Park or the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. Make the most of your stay in Beijing by indulging in incredible cuisine at an array of fantastic eateries. Menus will have you salivating over succulent Peking duck, delicious dumplings and perfect noodles! Overnight at the hotel.
Day 11: Beijing to UK
After breakfast, take your transfer back to Beijing Airport in time for your international flight home. This is the end of an incredible trip, which will leave you memories to last a lifetime!

Tiananmen Square
Tiananmen Square is the largest city square in the world, located in the centre of Beijing. It is named after the Tiananmen which sits to its north, separating it from the Forbidden City. This square has great cultural significance as it was the site of several key events in Chinese history. The square contains the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong.
Forbidden City
The Forbidden City, housing the Palace Museum, is the most magnificent and splendid palace complex in China. It is situated in the middle of Beijing and for nearly 500 years, has served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government.
