Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Arrival in Beijing
Upon arrival in Beijing, you will be met by your driver & transferred to your hotel. After checking in you will have free time to visit the city and discover its treasures at your own leisure.
Dinner is not included: if you're feeling adventurous and want to taste the local street food we suggest that you explore Donghuamen Night Market where you will find a mouth-watering array of local cuisine: delectable moon cakes, Sichuan-style chilli-spiked crayfish, and flaky flatbreads are just the tip of the iceberg! Overnight in Beijing with breakfast included.
Sightseeing today includes a stroll through Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao's Mausoleum to the treasure-filled Forbidden City, which has the largest and best-preserved collection of ancient buildings in China. Ascend Prospect Hill in Jingshan Park after which you will take a rickshaw ride around the old town, meandering down the narrow alleys known as a Hutong. Here, you shall enjoy lunch at a homestay before visiting the Yonghe Temple, also known as the Lama Temple. Overnight in Beijing with breakfast included.
Today will include an excursion to the Great Wall of China and Juyong Pass. Walk along the Great Wall to appreciate 2,000 years of history whilst admiring the panoramic views. The Great Wall is China's most iconic attraction, which stretches over 4,000 miles from the Shanhaiguan Pass on the east coast to the Gobi Desert in the west.
Afterwards, you will visit a Cloisonné factory. This is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects. On the way back towards the city, stop at the Ming Tombs, a collection of mausoleums built by the emperors of the Ming dynasty, located atop a hill. You will also get to visit The Sacred Way of Beijing measuring about four miles long and is leading to the Changling Mausoleum. Transfer back to Beijing for dinner at your leisure. Overnight in Beijing with breakfast included.
After breakfast, you will have a free morning to discover the city. You will then transfer (without assistance) to the station to take a high-speed train to Xi’an - the former ancient capital (leave approx 2 pm, arrive approx 6.20 pm). Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel where you can check-in at spend the rest of the day at leisure. Stroll around the beautifully-preserved 14th-century city walls or visit the Great Mosque of the city, which was constructed in a Chinese style dating back to the Tang Dynasty. Afterwards, you could stroll in the Muslim street which is famous for its street food. Overnight in Xi'an with breakfast included.
The morning you will be taken to see the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. This is one of two significant pagodas in Xi'an.
It is then onto the main attraction of Xi'an: a visit to one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th century: the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and his Terracotta Army. These 6000 warriors were created over 2,000 years ago to accompany Emperor Qin Shihuang into the afterlife. Overnight in Xi'an with breakfast included.
After breakfast, you have the day to explore this city at your own leisure. You could visit the thermal pools by the foot of Mount Li at the Huaqing Hot Springs, or why not discover the fortifications of Xi'an, also known as Xi'an City Wall. Overnight in Xi'an with breakfast included.
After breakfast in Xi'an, you will be transferred to the airport (without assistance) and take your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival, take your transfer to the airport the start discovering the city. Take a city tour of the waterfront area of the Bund and Nanjing Street - the main shopping street of Shanghai. You will then visit the extensive Yu Garden and take a walk in the old city. Overnight in Shanghai with breakfast included.
After breakfast, hit the road towards Suzhou. Suzhou is famed for its silk industry and was dubbed the Venice of the East because of its many ancient canals and bridges. Your memorable time here begins with a visit to Lingering Garden and Master of the Nets Garden, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander around the old town before taking a gondola ride. You will then transfer back to Shanghai. Overnight in Shanghai with breakfast included.
Today is at your leisure. Following breakfast, head out to discover the city. Uncover this diverse city which combines ancient customs and a bustling cosmopolitan atmosphere. Why not take a ferry ride along the Huangpu River to the futuristic Lujiazui district, where you could climb to the 100th floor of the International Financial Center to enjoy panoramic views of Shanghai. Overnight in Shanghai with breakfast included.
Day 10: Depart from Shanghai
Enjoy your last breakfast in Shanghai before you are transferred to the airport in time for your flight home.
