Often called the world’s most famous ‘oasis’, Las Vegas is instantly recognisable for its dazzling lights, skyline of spectacular hotels, glamorous casinos, and the promise of indulgence at every turn.

San Francisco

San Francisco, a city of enduring charm and innovation, captivates visitors with its unique blend of cultural richness and stunning landscapes. From its Victorian-era architecture to the bustling atmosphere of its diverse neighbourhoods, this city promises an experience unlike any other. Be prepared for fluctuating weather; layering your attire is a must as fog often rolls in unexpectedly, even on sunny days.

Must-sees:

  • Pier 39, a vibrant waterfront spot to see sea lions basking and enjoy local shops.
  • Coit Tower, offering panoramic views of the city and its iconic landmarks.
  • Alcatraz Island, an infamous prison turned museum with a fascinating past, accessible by ferry.

Culinary culture:

San Francisco's food scene is as diverse as its population. The city is renowned for fresh seafood, including clam chowder served in sourdough bread bowls. Chinatown offers authentic dim sum, while Mission District taquerias serve some of the best tacos in the country. Don’t miss a visit to Ghirardelli Square, a historic site for sampling exquisite chocolate, a perfect souvenir.

Dive deeper:

To experience the city’s less-trodden paths, visit the Haight-Ashbury district, once the heart of the 1960s counterculture movement. Explore Dolores Park, a green haven with breathtaking views of the skyline, or wander through Chinatown, an enclave of unique architecture and lively streets. The Painted Ladies, an iconic row of Victorian homes, offer a glimpse into the city’s historic elegance.

Good to know:

The local currency is the US dollar, and most places accept cards, though cash may be useful in smaller establishments. San Francisco’s weather can be unpredictable year-round, with summer often cooler due to fog. Public transport, including buses and cable cars, is reliable, though walking allows you to fully appreciate the city’s distinctive charm.

Car hire:

Upon Arrival
To collect your rental car upon arrival in the United States, please go directly to the Hertz office with your rental confirmation number as shown on your travel documents.

If you are collecting your car at a Hertz airport location, a complimentary shuttle bus (stopping at both international and domestic arrivals) connects the airport area with the Hertz offices, both on arrival and departure.

Please note: When renting a car from a Hertz Licensee location, the rate includes unlimited mileage and LDW insurance. Airport and local taxes, as well as any optional insurance, must be paid locally.

To avoid unexpected charges from Hertz for optional extras (such as additional insurance, higher vehicle categories, fuel, etc.) offered at the time of pick-up, we recommend requesting the rental agreement in Italian and reading all information carefully before signing and initialling. Your signature on the contract, together with initials beside any selected extras, authorises Hertz to charge these amounts to your credit card, which is normally required as a security guarantee. Late vehicle returns will incur additional charges payable locally.

Note: Optional extras can be modified or cancelled within 72 hours by visiting any Hertz location to update the contract. No refunds are given for unused rental days.

GENERAL RENTAL CONDITIONS

Age
The minimum age to rent is 20 across the United States, except in New York and Michigan, where it is 18. A daily surcharge applies for all drivers aged 20–24, payable locally, and may vary depending on vehicle category and state, starting from USD 25 per day plus taxes. Drivers aged 18–19 (available only in New York and Michigan, and only for categories A–F) will be charged USD 52 per day plus taxes. A minimum age of 25 is required for renting Prestige or Adrenaline Collection vehicles, Dream Cars, or electric vehicles. All surcharges must be paid locally.

Driver’s Licence
An Italian driving licence accompanied by your voucher and round-trip airline ticket is accepted. An international driving permit is recommended to facilitate any authority checks. The Italian licence is mandatory even if you hold an international permit. If, for any reason (forgotten licence, invalid credit card, etc.) the rental company needs to change the driver name at pick-up, both the original renter and replacement driver must be present, and the new renter must meet all rental requirements (minimum age, valid licence, valid credit card, etc.).

Additional Drivers
A USD 15 daily surcharge per additional driver applies, up to USD 210, payable locally (except in California, where it is free if the additional driver is part of the same household as the main driver). In New York, the surcharge is USD 5 per day, up to USD 189. For Complete Rate rentals, the cost for up to three additional drivers is already included. Only one driver under 25 may be listed on the contract. In New York, additional drivers aged 18–19 cannot be added.

One-Way Rentals
For rentals returned to a different location from pick-up, a drop-off fee applies, depending on distance and vehicle model, as indicated in your rental documents.

Restrictions
One-way rentals to or from Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, or Alaska are not permitted. Vehicles may not be used on poorly maintained or unpaved roads, or in Mexico, unless specific insurance is purchased at pick-up. Rental vehicles are not permitted on ferries in Juneau or Fairbanks, Alaska. Alaska rentals are subject to route restrictions, including unpaved or poorly maintained roads and the following highways: Dalton, Steese, Dempster, Elliott, Denali, and Taylor. Damage on these routes is not covered by insurance.

Fuel
Vehicles are usually delivered with a full tank and must be returned full. Any differences are settled locally, with fuel costs including a surcharge above the station price. Complete Rate rentals include the Fuel Purchase Option (FPO), so returning with a full tank is not required. No refunds are provided for unused fuel.

Taxes
All local charges payable on-site are subject to state and local taxes, which may vary.

Security Deposit
To rent a vehicle from Hertz, the renter must present a valid driving licence in their name and a major credit or debit card with sufficient funds, also in the renter’s name. Virtual credit cards are not accepted. An authorisation for estimated rental costs and any additional charges will be placed on the card at pick-up. This amount cannot be used by the renter. The deposit amount is determined at pick-up and there is no fixed maximum, so ensure your card limit accommodates your rental duration and vehicle category. Debit cards are not accepted for Adrenaline or Dream Collection vehicles. An additional authorisation may be required if the vehicle is returned late or if booking modifications incur extra costs.

Debit Cards
Hertz Corporate locations accept VISA, MasterCard, and Discover debit cards drawing directly from a bank account in the cardholder’s name, but only for vehicles in categories A–F and Q4. Debit cards are not accepted for other vehicle categories, including electric vehicles.

Airport locations require the debit card, a round-trip airline ticket matching the rental period, and two valid forms of ID. Non-airport locations require the renter to be at least 25, reserve at least 24 hours in advance, and present two valid forms of ID plus a ticket (air or sea) matching the rental period. All driving, payment, and minimum age requirements must be met.

Vehicle Model
The booked vehicle model is indicative; a vehicle of equal size and category may be provided instead.

Electric Vehicles
Tesla vehicles can be charged at Tesla stations (maximum 90% charge). Costs are charged to the credit card on file, though charges may take several days to appear. Charging at non-Tesla stations must be paid locally. Remove the vehicle promptly when charging is complete to avoid fines. Vehicles are usually delivered at 80% charge; EVPO, purchased locally, allows returning with lower charge without extra fees. Renters are responsible for any damage to charging stations. Some models include adapters and onboard computers; do not perform software updates unless instructed by Hertz.

Insurance
Standard rental rates include LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) covering all vehicle damage and theft (excluding fire) and LIS (Liability Insurance Supplement) covering up to USD 300,000 for bodily injury and property damage. Optional coverage includes PAI/PEC (personal accident and belongings) and PERS (Premium Emergency Roadside Service).

PlatePass
Hertz offers PlatePass® All-Inclusive Tolling for electronic toll convenience. Daily rates range USD 9.99–27.99 depending on location. Without PlatePass, tolls incur a USD 9.99 daily fee plus toll cost.

Manhattan Congestion Charge
From 5 January 2025, vehicles entering Manhattan’s Congestion Relief Zone (streets and avenues up to 60th Street) will incur a daily toll plus USD 5 administrative fee. Passenger and small commercial vehicles: USD 9 peak, USD 2.25 off-peak. Peak: weekdays 05:00–21:00; weekends 09:00–21:00.

Late Returns
Maximum return time is based on 24-hour rental days. Up to 30 minutes late is free; 30–59 minutes incurs one hour; over 60 minutes incurs a full day. Returns over 12 hours late without prior notice incur an additional USD 12 per day (USD 15 for EVs) plus extra rental charges.

Winter Driving
From 1 October to 1 April, vehicles are equipped with all-season tyres, ice scraper or snow brush, de-icing windshield fluid, antifreeze, and complimentary emergency roadside assistance. Snow chains are not provided at Hertz US locations.

Child Seats
Child seats are mandatory as per local law. Regulations vary by state; check at pick-up. Seats can be reserved in advance or locally and must be fitted by the renter.

Important
This information summarises Hertz rental terms in English. Rules may change and Turisanda/Presstour accepts no liability; the original on-site contract prevails.

Debit Card Use
Debit cards (VISA, MasterCard, Discover) may guarantee the deposit only for vehicles in categories B–F. Canadian-issued debit cards are not accepted. Airport rentals require the debit card, round-trip airline ticket, and two valid IDs.
