Or, why not take an optional hike through the Serra da Malagueta mountain range which is located in the north of the island. It's one of the most beautiful hikes on the island of Santiago, descending through the Ribeira Principal Valley to the small village of Hortelão. Along the way, you'll pass between traditional stone houses, accessible only on foot. The guide will explain the curiosities about the flora and the daily life of the inhabitants who live there mainly from agriculture.

During this ramble, enjoy a light walk (around 45 min) past banana, coconut and mango trees.
