Brussels —
Home to the European Parliament and a hub for businesses, you’d be forgiven for thinking Brussels is no more than a bureaucratic capital - but behind its modern exterior lie historic charms, indulgent cuisine, and quaint attractions. A good place to start your exploration of the city is the Grand Place, a UNESCO World Heritage square lined with opulent guildhalls and the imposing Town Hall, deemed to be one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.
With no fewer than 80 museums in the Brussels area, culture-lovers will feel right at home in the Belgian capital. Visit the Oldmasters Museum for an extensive dive into Flemish masters, or explore the world of Belgian comics at the Belgian Comic Strip Centre. After a morning of museums, take a break at one of the city’s homely cafes and indulge in some classic Belgian waffles!
Other popular attractions in the city include the memorable 17th-century Manneken Pis statue, and the ulta-modern Atomium, where visitors can get a birds-eye view of the city from 92m high. In the evening, make sure to try some of the city’s famous beer - there are plenty of cosy bars perfect for a tipple, and why not pair your beer with some of the city’s finest chips?
