Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Arrival in Krems
Enjoy an evening stroll through the charming riverside town of Krems and take in the local ambience, the perfect way to begin your hiking holiday.
Day 2: Krems - Dürnstein
(Approx. 12 km │ Walking time: approx. 4,5 hours │ 530 VM ↑ │ 550 VM ↓)
Make your way up through beautiful vineyards, onwards to the tower, where you'll marvel at views overlooking the spectacular river Danube, the city Krems and the magnificent monastery Göttweig. Head across tumbling hills to the cosy Fesslhütte, before reaching the historic Dürnstein ruins on a trail with breathtaking views as you arrive at the banks of the Danube.
Day 3: Dürnstein - Weissenkirchen
(Approx. 16 km │ walking time: approx. 5 hours │ 480 VM ↑ │ 480 VM ↓)
Enjoy a ferry-ride from Dürnstein across to Rossatz. From here, you'll pass by the largest apricot growing area of Austria, taking old tracks up to Seekopf, where you'll be able to marvel at incredible views of the Alps. Explore the area a little further and venture on an optional walk along the Danube through beautiful orchards back to the ferry.
Day 4: Weissenkirchen - Spitz
(Approx. 12 km │ walking time: approx. 4 to 5 hours │ 600 VM ↑ │ 600 VM ↓)
Take the wine trail as you depart from Weissenkirchen, making your way past stunning wine cellars as you head up to Seiber. Continue on through the forest, with an initial sharp incline as you head to Buschandlwand, where an observation platform awaits - meaning more awe-inspiring panoramic views! Alternatively, take the route passing through the vineyard, and stop off at the famous wine grower community Spitz an der Donau.
Day 5: Spitz - Melk
(Approx. 15 km │ walking time: approx. 4,5 to 5,5 hours │ 640 VM ↑ │ 640 VM ↓)
Take the ferry across the Danube to Maria Langegg, where you will follow the St. Jacob’s trail all the way up to the enchanting ruins of Aggsbach. Admire the spectacular scenic views across the valley from the fortress itself, and indulge on a snack whilst on your visit. Head downward to Aggsbach, where you will be able to catch the bus to Melk.
Day 6: Melk
Make the most of the final stop on your tour and visit Melk's impressive monastery. Choose to make your own way back or alternatively return by boat to Krems, to continue your journey home from there.
