Travel Advice

For the latest travel advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office including security and local laws, plus passport and visa information please click here.

Please note that the advice can change, and you should continue to check all advice until you travel.

Entry Requirements

You must ensure you have a valid passport to travel on.

Until 30 June 2021, ‘British Citizen’ passport holders travelling for tourism can enter Vietnam for up to a maximum of 15 days (counting the dates of entry and exit) without a visa. If you have a different type of British nationality – for example ‘British national (overseas)’ you’ll need to get a visa before entering Vietnam.

If you’re planning to make multiple visits in a short period to Vietnam, consider applying for a multiple entry visa. You can’t get another 15-day visa waiver within 30 days of your last visit - you’ll need to get a visa or an e-visa to re-enter the country.

For longer durations of 16 to 30 days (for example if you arrive in Vietnam on 23rd August and leave on 7th September), you must get an e-visa online before you travel. The use of an e-visa is limited to certain entry/exit points which you must select at the time of application. E-visas are only applicable to ‘British Citizen’ passport holders.

For more information on entry requirements please go to https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/vietnam/entry-requirements

Health

For information about important health advice and any vaccinations required please visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice and https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries

There are increased levels of dengue cases in 2019. Please be sure to check all health advice on the following link before travelling, paying particular attention to the 'Other Risks' section. This advice is subject to change.

If vaccinations or other preventive measures are required, you will need to visit your health professional at least 8 weeks before your trip.

UK health authorities have classified Vietnam as having a risk of Zika virus transmission. For information and advice about the risks associated with Zika virus, visit the National Travel Health Network and Centre website.

If you’re taking prescription medication into Vietnam, carry it in your hand luggage with a copy of the prescription. If it has a total import value greater than US$100, you should declare it at customs.

Please note that passport, visa and health requirements can change. It is every traveller’s responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport, any required visas, and all the necessary vaccinations/health requirements as well as adequate insurance.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As of July 10th 2020, the UK Government has approved that travel to Vietnam is allowed without the need to quarantine upon return, thanks to an 'air-bridge' agreement. Vietnam has been listed as a 'green/amber' destination and is therefore considered safe enough to visit without requiring 14 days of self-isolation upon reentering the UK. Tourists choosing to book stopover flights may not be permitted to return without quarantining if the country they stop off in is not also listed as green/amber by the UK Government. Please note that this information is constantly being reviewed and may be subject to change.

Please note that due to the current situation, any information mentioned is subject to change or adaptation.

We strongly recommend that you contact the hotel three days before your departure to keep you informed of the latest changes and information.

You can also refer to our FAQ section to find more information on the development of the situation.
