Day 2: Hanoi - Orientation (Breakfast & Lunch)
Set off for a half-day exploring the key highlights of the city. Today, you take advantage of this day to discover the essentials of the city. Explore Long Bien market, set up under the eponym bridge, is the most fascinating place in the city. This market is ranked by the American magazine Conde Nast Traveller in its list of the 7 most attractive markets in the world. Visit Long Bien Bridge, formerly called Paul-Doumer Bridge. It was built during the French Indochina colonization period by the company Daydé & Pillé (a company absorbed by the Eiffel group). Then, our tour guide will take you through the city’s landmarks such as the Opera House, the French architectural district, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Tran Quoc Pagoda. Stop to visit the complex dedicated to Ho Chi Minh, the nation’s founder and affectionately known to the Vietnamese as “Uncle Ho”.

Make the first stop at the historic Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, an imposing monument built to serve as the final resting place of Uncle Ho. Continue walking through the beautiful botanical garden of the Presidential Palace to visit Uncle Ho’s humble house, built based on a rural Vietnamese stilt house with simple design in a tranquil setting, reflecting his simple, pure and noble lifestyle. Tour the One Pillar Pagoda, built in 1049 of wood on a single stone pillar, designed to resemble a lotus blossom, the symbol of purity. Lunch in a restaurant. We continue our visit to the Museum of Ethnology where the recognition of Vietnam as a country of multiethnic and socio-cultural diversity is presented (this museum is closed every Monday and this visit will be replaced by the Temple of Literature). Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 3: Hanoi – Binh Lieu - Ethnic minority villages (Breakfast/Lunch)
Binh Lieu is a border district in the east of Quang Ninh Province, with nearly 50 km of border with China. Considered as a miniature Sapa, Binh Lieu has an immaculate beauty with beautiful terraced fields.Departure from Hanoi on a good road to Binh Lieu (4.5 hours’ drive). Notice the every-changing of the landscape along the away as you will journey through the vast countryside of the Red River Delta. Upon arrival, visit a village to discover cultural characteristics of the unique ethnic group Dzao Thanh Phan. For a long time, they have chosen themselves the red as the main color of their costume. Young Dzao Thanh Phan often wear a red scarf on their head, print a pattern and tie a chin strap, showing the softness, naivety and elegance. Lunch in a local restaurant.

Transfer to explore the Mooc River waterfall and conquer the boundary marker with China located on the highest mountain in Binh Lieu. The "Dinosaur Spine" of Binh Lieu can only be conquered by climbing. On a beautiful day, it takes you about 3 hours to reach the top. (Note: shorter option is available, around 45 minutes climbing). Walking in the middle of the "dinosaur spine" filled with picturesque grass or white reed (white reed season in November), you will find yourself very small.Overnight in a basic local accommodation in Binh Lieu (private room with private bathroom, hot water and toilet, clean, well located). This is the best choice in the area.

Day 4: Binh Lieu - Ha Long Bay (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/In-house English speaking guide on board only)

Breakfast at your hotel, transfer to the airport for flight to Saigon. On arrival, your guide and driver will pick you up and drive you to the hotel to leave luggage (rooms are available from 14:00). Formerly known as “Saigon” before 1975, Ho Chi Minh City today is Vietnam’s commercial centre that never sleeps. Although the city is a dynamic metropolis undergoing dramatic change, the remnants of its past are still discover-able in the historic landmarks and beautiful French colonial buildings dotted throughout the city. Our half-day city tour takes in most of the highlights and must-see attraction of Ho Chi Minh City.

Tour the Reunification Palace to admire the amazing work of its architecture and learn about the great changes of Ho Chi Minh City’s history. Today, 7.00am, depart Saigon for 1.5-hour drive northwest to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, passing through urbanized areas and a typically lush southern Vietnamese countryside. Known as an immense network of 220km of connecting underground tunnels divided into 3 levels at 6 meters, 8 meters and 10 meters deep underground, the famous Cu Thi Tunnels were occupied by more than 10,000 people during the war. This zigzag tunnel system was served to link different villages (some tunnels pass under rivers) and played a definite role in the outcome and the Vietnamese victory in the Vietnam War. Tour the vast network of underground passageways to gain an insight into the tunnels’ history, life in the tunnels as well as the tenacity and resourcefulness of the Vietnamese during combat.

Then, departure to My Tho province, passing through lush rice paddies and fruit farms. Taste some local delicacies for lunch time. Arrive at the waterfront pier and hop on an enjoyable motor boat excursion, take in the Delta scenery, houses built on stilts, and local fish farms along the way. Disembark the boat and explore a tranquil islet on foot. Walk leisurely on shady and palm-fringed trails observing rural life that remains in many ways similar to how it was lived far back in history. You will have the chance to see a family-run business where they make coconut candy directly in front of the pier.

Taste local tea with honey, sample fruits while listening to a traditional folk song performance “Don ca tai tu”, the traditional art of the Southern rural region that was listed as intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2013. Please note that the advice can change, and you should continue to check all advice until you travel.

Entry Requirements

You must ensure you have a valid passport to travel on.

Until 30 June 2021, ‘British Citizen’ passport holders travelling for tourism can enter Vietnam for up to a maximum of 15 days (counting the dates of entry and exit) without a visa. If you have a different type of British nationality – for example ‘British national (overseas)’ you’ll need to get a visa before entering Vietnam.

If you’re planning to make multiple visits in a short period to Vietnam, consider applying for a multiple entry visa. You can’t get another 15-day visa waiver within 30 days of your last visit - you’ll need to get a visa or an e-visa to re-enter the country.

For longer durations of 16 to 30 days (for example if you arrive in Vietnam on 23rd August and leave on 7th September), you must get an e-visa online before you travel. The use of an e-visa is limited to certain entry/exit points which you must select at the time of application. E-visas are only applicable to ‘British Citizen’ passport holders.

For more information on entry requirements please go to https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/vietnam/entry-requirements

Vietnam has been listed as a 'green/amber' destination and is therefore considered safe enough to visit without requiring 14 days of self-isolation upon reentering the UK. Tourists choosing to book stopover flights may not be permitted to return without quarantining if the country they stop off in is not also listed as green/amber by the UK Government.
