Vietnam

Year on year Vietnam is becoming a more popular holiday destination as people start to discover all that this beautiful and fascinating country has to offer. The attraction of a holiday to Vietnam is evident when you consider its unique cultural and historical heritage set in an unspoilt, diverse and engaging landscape. Whilst Vietnam is an extraordinary country to explore, an increasing number of tourists are going simply to relax; with over 3,000km of coastline, stunning white sand beaches and a number of deluxe 5-star resorts.

This red sandstone temple is one of Angkor’s most significant structures as its walls are decorated with elaborate carvings which have been preserved remarkably well. They provide an excellent into the Angkor civilization and their beliefs. It was built in the 10th century and was dedicated to the Hindu god – Shiva.

Banteay Samre
Dating from the same period as Angkor Wat, this temple was built by Suryavarman II. This temple is in a fairly healthy state of preservation due to some extensive renovation work. The area consists of a central temple with four wings, preceded by a hall and also accompanied by two libraries, the southern one remarkably well preserved. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 13: Siem Reap - Angkor Complex (Breakfast and Lunch Included)
After breakfast, you will start a very special and busy day as you will explore some of Angkor’s most beautiful temples. You will visit from the West Gate – undiscovered by mass tourists, before discovering the ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12th century), the Bayon Temple – unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara, the Baphuon Temple: lying just to the north of Bayon, a pyramidal representation of mythical Mont Meru, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King.

You will continue to visit the fabulous Ta Prohm embraced by the roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers. Ta Prohm was built in the 12th century. It’s a Buddhist temple dedicated to the mother of King Jayavarman VII.

In the afternoon, you will visit the famous temple: Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is a World Heritage Site since 1992, famous for its beauty and splendour. Angkor Wat features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls and narrates stories from Hindu mythology. Afterwards, head back to the hotel to relax. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 14: Siem Reap - Floating Village - Flooded Forest (Breakfast and Lunch Included)
After breakfast, transfer to the pier of Tonle Sap Lake to take a motorboat trip to Kompong Phluk. Depending on the water level, you will arrive at this floating village after 30 minutes. Wander around to witness how the natives organised to live in harmony with this whim of the lake and visit the traditional pagoda. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, talk to the young bonzes then donate the school supplies bought on site to the children of the local school.

Embark in a flat-bottomed dugout to start your trip in the flooded forest. As you cruise along, you will easily find the fishponds installed around. Enjoy the fresh atmosphere at this ephemeral corner before returning to the village, where you take the boat back to the pier. Head back to the hotel, and relax on your own. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Please Note: The boat ride on the Tonle Sap is not recommended during the dry season (March to July) due to the lack of water. During this period, this tour can be replaced by the Cambodian campaign visit as below:

Take a Tuk Tuk to explore one of the local villages where you can see the daily activities of the locals. Take a walk around to meet shy but humble villagers. After that, transfer to visit a local market where you will discover an unknown mix of colours, smells and sounds as you walk through the small alleys and meet some of the friendliest Khmer people who sell and buy a variety of foods and household items. Have lunch in a local restaurant then ready for your afternoon tour.

Prasat Kravan -With its unique sculptures on the bricks
Srah Srang – The Royal Bathtubs were once used for the ritual bath
Banteay Kdei – surrounded by four concentric walls

You will have a free evening on your own to stroll along the street, dine in a typical restaurant with a wide variety of local food, and go to a local bar for cool drinks or the lively night market. Overnight in Siem Reap.
