Your Optional Excursions

Our members can choose to add the following excursions at the next stage of the booking process for an additional fee - subject to availability.

Ha Long Bay on Land - Day 2

Your Optional Excursions
At 8am, your guide and driver will pick you up and drive you to the nature reserve. You will arrive at the Trang An Pier, where a flat-bottomed rowboat will take you to discover what is known as "Ha Long Bay on Land". Take a 2-hour boat trip and row through many flooded caves with unusual names. Nowadays, there are about 48 discovered caves in Trang An, which are nestled among a harmonious and intact landscape made from mountains and river.

The tectonics exercised in these places for millions of years have made it a vast complex that constitutes a unique ecosystem hosting several dozen endemic species of fauna and flora. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, take a bike ride to discover the ancient Bich Dong Pagoda and the surrounding area – the typical rural landscape of the Red River Delta. Return to Hanoi in the end of afternoon.

Please Note: During Vietnamese New Year (January, February, or March) when there are many Vietnamese tourists, the program of Trang An will be replaced by visits to the Van Long Nature Reserve as below:

At 8am, depart for the Van Long Nature Reserve, a completely natural and authentic landscape which is located 20km north of Ninh Binh city centre. Upon arrival, take a rowing boat tour to discover the Van Long Nature Reserve (also known as the Van Long Biological Preservation Area), an exceptional natural site. This 2-hour boat trip allows you to discover an array of beautiful sights in a quiet setting, with karstic rocks emerging from the water and wildlife all around. Far from the bustling cities, here, you will feel calm among nature with birds, waters, limestone rocks, and plants.

Hue City Tour - Day 5

Your Optional Excursions
At 8.30 am, depart from your hotel and visit the Covered Bridge of Thanh Toan, a local market and the surroundings of this authentic village. Then, enjoy a cruise on the Perfume River to visit the Thien Mu Pagoda and the Tomb of King Minh Mang (oriental style decoration). Lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon, you will pay a visit to the Imperial Citadel (World Cultural Heritage) including the Flat Tower, Ngo Mon Gate and the Thai Hoa Palace.

Tra Que Village Cooking Class - Day 7 or 8

Your Optional Excursions
At 8.30 am, you will take a bike ride to the vegetable village of Tra Que, where you can walk around the vegetable garden and participate in the preparation and fertilisation of the land with the local lake's algae: rake, sow, water the plants, and pick the green vegetables with the local farmers. Continue with a cooking class to learn how to prepare Huu Tam Spring Rolls and Banh Xeo with your host, and then enjoy the specialties made by yourself. The return trip to Hoi An will be made via a bike. Continue to explore Hoi An on foot and follow the narrow streets lined with houses with Chinese, Japanese, French and European architecture while visiting the many sights: the 400-year-old Japanese Bridge, the Phuc Kien Meeting Room and the local fish market. Around the town, you can see art galleries and tailor shops and even make custom clothing.

Visit Ben Tre - Mekong Delta - Day 10

Your Optional Excursions
Depart from your hotel at 8 am. After around 2.5 hours of driving from busting Ho Chi Minh City, you will arrive in Ben Tre. You will then board on cruise, a new boat with design open on all sides to allow the river breezes to flow freely. As you meander down the Mekong, you'll have a chance to observe your surroundings from the comfort of your cruise as it plays out on the riverbanks. Witness the people and the stunning landscapes while your attentive crew serves cold drinks and seasonal fruit.

Next is a tuk-tuk ride taking you to a local family making coconut-leaves-swobs. Meet your friendly host, and gain an insight into local traditional methods to make a swob. Continue with a relaxing bike ride on the lush and ever green rural roads. Cycle through peaceful villages, meet friendly locals, and feel the tranquil scenes of rural life.

Next, take a rowing boat through the crisscross canals and enjoy a short walk on the narrow village lanes to Mr. Ba’s family. His hospitable greetings and tasty local cake will make you feel totally at home. His family will be happy to share their recipe, so try and make one local cake on your own under their enthusiastic instruction. Enjoy tea with honey and dried coconut while chatting with them about their daily routine, the local culture, customs and why you don’t let a local fortune-teller tell you what is supposed to happen in the future. Lunch will be served with Mekong specialties at a local restaurant. Relax, enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, and transfer to the pier where a waiting driver will take you back to your hotel.

Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat Temple Tours - Day 12 (only with extension)

Your Optional Excursions
At 8 am, take a car across the jungle and pass local villages and local shops. On this very special day, you'll explore some of the most beautiful temples in Angkor. You will visit the western entrance to Angkor Thom and will enjoy the following highlights

- The ancient capital of Angkor Thom (in the 12th century)
- See the southern entrance, Temple of Bayon, unique for its 54 towers decorated with more than 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara
- The royal enclosure, Phimeanakas
- The Elephant Terrace and the Leper King's Terrace

Afterwards, enjoy lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the famous Angkor Wat, a World Heritage Site since 1992, famous for its beauty and splendour. Angkor Wat is the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, running along the walls of the outer gallery and telling stories of Hindu mythology.

Roulos Group and Floating Village Kompong Khleang - Day 13 (only with extension)

Your Optional Excursions
At 8am, depart by car to visit the group of Roulos. The monuments of Roulos which served as the capital of Indravarman I are among the largest temples of the pre-Angkorian era and mark the beginning of the traditional Khmer art. Visit Preah Ko, which was erected at the end of the 9th century. The Bakong is its Buddhist monastery located north of the eastern entrance. The Lolei and its four brick towers, a replica of Preah Kho, are built on an island now inhabited by rice paddies. Lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon, depart by private car to visit the lake village of Kompong Khleang and its breathtaking landscapes: floodplains and expanses of water as far as the eye can see. Walk in the village and meet the local inhabitants. Take a traditional boat ride on the canals.

Banteay Srei - Day 14 (only with extension)

Your Optional Excursions
Your guide will pick you up to explore the Angkor complex. Highlights include;

- Banteay Srei: interesting site of almost everyone. The special charm of this temple lies in its compact size, remarkable state of preservation, and excellence of decorative sculpture
- Banteay Srame: The sandstone rose colored walls are decorated with sculptures and bas-reliefs, which are among the most accomplished things Angkor has to offer.
- Lunch in a local restaurant
- Continue to visit the fabulous Ta Prohm embraced by the roots of huge trees and gigantic lianas
- Prasat Kravan - with its unique sculptures on the bricks
