Chwaka Bay is part of the Jozani Forest-Chwaka Bay Conservation Area. The coral rag zone is home to wildlife species of international significance including the endemic and near extinct Zanzibar leopard (P.pardus adersii), the red colobus monkey (Procolubus badius Kirkii) and the Ader duiker (Cephalophus adersii). The conservation area harbours five important vegetation zones: ground water forest, coral rag forest, salt marsh, mangrove forest, and sea grass beds. Trips exploring the nature with a local guide can be organised by the hotel.
On the peninsula's ocean side, there is a long barrier reef approximately 1km offshore. Diving and snorkelling trips at the reef can be arranged with the hotel. Swim between the large coral formations and schools of tropical fish and witness life under the sea! You may also rent snorkelling equipment from the hotel and explore the lagoon yourself at your own leisure. Mnemba Island is a popular coral reef diving spot of international importance. The hotel can also arrange trips to Mnemba which is just off the northeast coast of Zanzibar.
The capital of Zanzibar is Stone Town which can be reached in approximately 80 minutes. On the way you will pass Jozani Forest, famous for its red colobus monkeys. If you are seeking nightlife, the village of Paje is only 20 minutes away.

Your Time —
The hotel property is endowed with beautiful tropical beaches. The main beach can be easily accessed via wooden stairs and features local deckchairs and thatched sunshades. It is best to swim in the ocean at high tide. During low tide you can explore the tidal pools and coral rock while wading to a lagoon where swimming is possible at any time. Right behind the focal beach lays the new striking swimming pool inviting you to splash into the crystal-clear water and refresh from the intense tropical sun.
Bao Beach is a wide, deserted beach with private access for hotel guests through a short 5 minute walk through the forest. It can also be reached from the main beach at low tide. In the morning you can observe local fishermen selling octopus and fresh fish between the two beaches.
There are several wild animals living on the plot that can be spotted such as dik-diks (small species of antelope), hyrax, dykes Sykes and even the endemic red colobus monkeys.
The hotel can arrange scuba diving with the fully equipped PADI 5 Star IDC Centre that regularly dives the unspoiled reefs of the southeast coast of Zanzibar. First-time divers will be able to familiarise themselves with the diving equipment accompanied by an instructor in a swimming pool. It is also good to know that there is a decompression chamber with professional medical staff that opened in Zanzibar in July 2008.
Another exciting activity within easy reach is Kite Surfing. The fully accredited International Kiteboarding Organisation (IKO) centre's amenities include a compressor, pack-down area and rescue boat. Special activities include extreme down-winders, full moon kiting, bonfire BBQ parties and other events.
