Tarangire National Park

South of Lake Manyara and just over 100km from Arusha, this is a delightful, untamed gem of a park. Covering 2,600 sq km, it abounds with game and the numerous wide-bowed baobab trees create a lasting impression. Tarangire is at its finest during the dry seasons, from between June to October and December to March. This is when the Tarangire River and the various swamps attract the highest concentrations of game, providing a lifeline to thousands of species. This area is best for oryx, kudu, wildebeest, zebra, elephant and eland but leopards and massive pythons are also found here.

Manyara National Park

From whichever direction you approach Manyara, the first view is spectacular. From the east, the Rift Valley wall rises several hundred metres to form an impressive backdrop to the lake. From the west, if one is perched at the top of the escarpment, the park lies far below, with a long green strip of water that glistens in the sunlight. The vegetation around the lake’s shores is surprisingly varied and comprises mostly forest, acacia woodland and open grassland.

The park covers an area of 330 sq km of which about 230 sq km is the lake itself. You can always find hippo in the Simba River, elephant in the forests and a resident herd of Cape buffalo on the open plains at Mahali Pa Nyati, which means, ‘The place of the buffalo’ in Swahili. In addition, there are approximately 400 species of birds and with some luck you might see tree-climbing lions.

Serengeti National Park

In the local vernacular, Serengeti means ‘the endless plains that go up to the sky’. And they do just that. It is therefore easy to understand why this is the most popular and spectacular of all game parks in East Africa. Covering 14,765 sq km, one of the striking features of this park is the series of large granite outcrops that dominate the vast plains, making it very different to the Masai Mara. Life in the park centres on the triangular trek of several million hooves. This movement never stops, as the animals constantly seek out new grazing pastures. 

Every year, after the south’s short November rains, wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, eland, topi and hartebeest gather in their thousands on the Serengeti’s southern plains and the Ngorongoro Highlands. Then, around April, they head towards the western corridor of the Serengeti, where many overflow into the Masai Mara around July/August. They remain here until late October/November, when Tanzania’s new rains prompt the move south again, towards Lake Ndutu and Lagaja. This yearly phenomenon also affects the lives of hundreds of thousands of other species, who rely on the migratory herds for their survival. These include predators, gazelles, birds and lowly insects, not to mention the grasses and trees that are fertilised by droppings.

Zanzibar

Upon arrival into Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by your driver guide and transferred to Arumeru Lodge. Overnight at Arumeru Lodge on bed and breakfast basis. 

Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
After breakfast in the hotel, you will have a safari briefing by your professional driver guide then proceed to tarangire national park for morning game drive. Enjoy a picnic lunch en-route followed by an afternoon game drive in the park. Then proceed to your camp. Dinner and overnight Maweninga Camp on Full Board basis.
Day 3: Tarangire - Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast at the lodge, depart with picnic lunch to lake Manyara. Arrive in Lake Manyara national park for game drive, which is the best time to view animals in this park. When you approach it from the east, the Rift Valley escarpment looms on the horizon forming an impressive backdrop to the lake. In the tall trees of the ground water forest, monkeys leap from branch to branch, and on the escarpment, elephants stand in the shade. Other animals frequently seen are zebras, impalas, monkeys, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, and others. Game drive until sunset then proceed to you lodge in time to freshen up before dinner. Day 4: Manyara - Arusha - Zanzibar

From here lie the vast plains of the Serengeti, where you’ll hopefully start spotting game well before you get into the park. You arrive at the camp in the evening for dinner and overnight. Day 4: Serengeti National Park
After a leisurely breakfast depart with picnic lunch for a full day game drive of exploring Serengeti national park. Witness the immensity of the park and the amazing numbers of hoofed animals (zebra, wildebeest, antelopes…) as well as predators during this exciting game drive. Overnight at Ronjo Camp or similar on Full Board basis.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast in the lodge, proceed for Ngorongoro Conservation Area. A highlight awaits you to explore what is commonly referred to as the world’s largest wildlife zoo. You’ll descend through 2,000 feet into the crater with picnic lunch. Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct areas, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and some sandy dunes. With more than 30,000 resident animals, it is an awe-inspiring wildlife experience. Proceed to your lodge. Overnight at Ol duvai Camp or similar on Full Board basis.

Day 6: Karatu – Manyara national Park- Arusha - Zanzibar

Serengeti Balloon Safari (only available for 5-Night Itinerary)

Your Optional Excursions
Embark on what is probably the most beautiful balloon flight in the world and the ultimate Safari Experience. 5:00 am, Serengeti Balloon Safaris will collect you from your Central Serengeti, Western Corridor, or Serengeti South lodge or camp, and transfer you by Land rover/Land cruiser toour launch site. Here you will meet your pilot, receive a briefing and watch the inflation of your balloon.

At dawn we take off, rising as the sun rises and float whichever direction the winds of the morning take us. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below. At other times our pilot may ascend to 1000 ft or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. From time to time the pilot must put more heat into the balloon with the powerful whisper burners. In between these burns, there is silence apart from the natural sounds below.

The flight is for about one hour depending on conditions, and eventually you must land. You celebrate in the traditional manner with champagne (well, an excellent sparkling wine)before sitting down to a full English breakfast prepared and served in the bush in “Out of Africa” style with bone china, linen table cloth, King’s silver etc. After breakfast you receive your Serengeti Balloon certificate and later meet up with your safari driver ready to continue your day’s activities.

Jozani Forest Tour & Dolphin Trip with lunch (excludes drinks)

In southern Zanzibar, the Jozani Forest is a fantastic reserve and the only National Park on the island. Currently waiting to become the second World Heritage Site of Zanzibar, the Jozani Chwaka Bay region is a hotspot for biodiversity. This forest is home to a number of endemic species - unique to only Zanzibar and one of the rarest monkeys in the world, the endangered Red Colobus Monkey is a joy and privilege to witness.

Your discovery will take you on a journey through the lush, tropical forest surrounded by mangroves and salt marshes and filled with diverse trees & fauna. Here, your guide will teach you about the medicinal properties of various plants and will introduce you to the animals, birds and reptiles that inhabit this enchanting rainforest.

As you look up through the luscious jungle, be on the lookout for the famous red colobus monkeys of Zanzibar who may be searching in the trees for their dinner. Accustomed to visitors, you will have no trouble watching them while they eat or play.

Walking through the mangroves will take you over the marsh, where, depending on the tide, you can see tropical fish between the roots of the mangrove and crabs wandering through the mud. Mangroves play an important role in the conservation of the environment and are an essential resource for villagers. Your guide will give you be able to inform you on the different species found in the marsh and their job in this environment.

Continue your day with a transfer to Kizimkazi, on the south coast of Zanzibar, where you’ll set out to sea to experience a half-day of dolphin watching at their favourite hangout along the shallow coast. Kizimkazi is home to many dolphins, beautiful coral reefs and tropical fish.

Upon arrival, you will be briefed by security and will then embark on your boat to go in search of these marvellous mammals.

On this trip, you will be able to get as close as 10-20 metres to the dolphins, watching them play and jump through the water. However, dolphins are not tame and can be shy, so dolphin-spotting isn’t 100% guaranteed. On the other hand, this trip does give you the chance to sail the gorgeous coastline upon which you can admire the glistening ocean – why not head in the waters for a snorkel to see the coral reef, and swim in the clear, warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

You will then head back to the beach for a relaxing break with the crew.

Enjoy a day trip on a traditional boat beginning in Fumba, the perfect starting point to explore Menai Bay and explore this official conservation area. Housing intriguing uninhabited islands, the area is beautiful, scenic and frequented by dolphins.

Upon arrival, you will participate in a briefing about the safari. There is a 90% chance of seeing dolphins.

Pull up to Kwale Sandbank, where you will have the opportunity to snorkel in the coral reef, accompanied by the guide. Enjoy a refreshing drink before heading out for a tamarind lunch at Kwale Island. Discover a buffet featuring grilled fish, lobster, squid, chicken and tropical fruits. After lunch, you can laze on the beach or go for a swim in the lagoon. The more adventurous can try sailing in a ngalawa, a local canoe. The return to Fumba is scheduled at 17:30.
