Your Itinerary In Detail —
7-Night Tour
Day 1: COLOMBO AIRPORT - KURUNEGALA - DAMBULLA
You'll be welcomed on arrival at Colombo Airport by our representative, before taking your transfer to Dambulla via Kurunegala. Arrive and settle into your hotel in the countryside. The rest of the day is free to spend at your leisure.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Transfer: Private vehicle, 4 hours during day.
Day 2: DAMBULLA - SIGIRIYA - POLONNARUWA - DAMBULLA
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Sigiriya, where you'll visit Lion Rock or Sigiriya, the eighth wonder of the modern world. Sigirya is a citadel from the 5th century, built by King Kassyapa, and was a royal citadel for over 18 years.
Climb the stone stairs, and reach the top of the ‘Lion's Rock’. In a sheltered pocket, accessible by a spiral staircase, are the famous frescoes. Sigiriya's 5th century water gardens have been restored to their former glory.
Then, leave for Polonnaruwa and visit the medieval capital of Sri Lanka. This archeological site founded in the 12th century, was the work of a single king, Parakrama Bahu (1153 - 1186). Explore the royal palace, the temple of Shiva and the Buddhist temples home to the Vatadage (containing ancient relics), Gal Vihara (Rock Temple) and its three statues of Buddha.
Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: DAMBULLA - NALANDA GEDIGE - MATALE - KANDY
Breakfast at the hotel. Leave for Dambulla and visit the incredible cave monastery. The caves are carved out of granite, at more than 160 m altitude, and contain five temples. One is covered in gold, and the others contain Buddha statues and frescoes depicting his life.
Afterwards, continue to Matale and visit Nalanda Gedige en route. This Hindu temple was built between the 8th and 10th century, and is considered as the centre of Sri Lanka.
Continue towards Matale, for a visit to the spice garden at the gates of the old capital Kandy. Spices are mainly produced in this region, and the area is particularly well-known for its cinnamon. Learn about the different spices growing here, before heading back to Kandy where you'll settle in to your hotel.

DAY 4: KANDY
Breakfast at hotel. Visit pretty Kandy, on the shores of a lake framed by trees. Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you'll be able to visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the most famous Buddhist temples in the world. You're bound to see pilgrims laying fruit and flowers as offerings.
Next up, head to the famous Peradeniya botanical gardens, the biggest in Sri Lanka, These old royal parks span over 60 hectares, and contain 300 varieties of orchids and a majestic java fig tree.
After the visit, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Spend the rest of the afternoon at your leisure.

DAY 5: KANDY - NUWARAELIYA - NANUOYA - ELLA
Breakfast at the hotel. Leave Kandy in the morning and head to the Nuwara Eliya region, filled with tea plantations. Stop at Ramboda Falls, and continue through spectacular mountain scenery.
Visit a tea plantation where you'll learn about how tea is made. Nuwara Eliya looks like an English city due to its Victorian houses and rose gardens, and is a pretty place to wander in the afternoon.
Take your transfer to the train station in Nanuoya and board your train to Ella, You'll pass through tea country, with magnificent hills and superb views during one of the world's most scenic railway journeys. You'll be transferred to your hotel on arrival.

DAY 6: ELLA - SMALL ADAMS PEAK - UDAWALAWE NATIONAL PARK - UDAWALAWE
Breakfast. Leave for a short walk towards the tea plantations at 'Small Adam's peak'. Marvel at views of magnificent hilly landscapes, and stop in front of the Ravana Falls waterfall.
In the afternoon, visit Udawalawe National Park, for a 3 1/2 hour jeep safari. Watch birds, crocodiles, spotted deer, buffalo, and wild elephants. After your safari, take your transfer to your hotel and settle in for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7: UDAWALAWE - TANGALLE - GALLE - NEGOMBO
Breakfast. Leave for Tangalle on the southern coast, where sea meets mountains. Follow the road to Galle, a key stop on the spice route, selling cinnamon, mother of pearl, oil and lemongrass. The old town is protected by UNESCO, and carries many traces of its colonial past in its winding alleys.
Follow the road to Negombo. Arrive and settle in for dinner at overnight at your hotel.

DAY 8: NEGOMBO - COLOMBO AIRPORT
Breakfast at the hotel, and transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
