DAY 01 - AIRPORT / COLOMBO
Arrival at Colombo International Airport. Here, you will be met by a designated chauffer guide from Hayleys Tours. After the formalities at the airport you will be escorted to your air conditioned vehicle and proceed to Colombo.

On arrival, check in to the hotel and then you are free for leisure.

DAY 02 - COLOMBO / PINNAWALA / HABARANA

After breakfast at the hotel, be at Pinnawala Elephant orphanage on time to see milk feeding @ 1315 hrs.

Pinnawala Elephant  Orphanage  is the home for young  Elephants who have been displaced or lost from their natural habitat, located at Pinnawala village in Sabaragamuwa province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawela Elephant  Orphanage  is  the  best  place  for  an  up  close  and  personal experience with the world ’ s largest land mammals!     Today with 70 elephants herein, Pinnawela has become the home to the largest captive group of elephants in the world.

Thereafter continue your journey to Dambulla.

DAY 02 - HABARANA / SIGIRIYA / MINNERIYA / HABARANA
After breakfast leave for the Sigiriya Rock Fortress where you could climb the 1200 steps and admire the fabulous frescoes on the walls of the ancient rock fortress..

The Sigiriya Rock Fortress is known as the 8th wonder of the world. This rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. In a sheltered a pocket, approached by a spiral stairway, are the famous frescoes. The summit of the rock, with an area of nearly one hectare was the site of the palace and the outer wall was built on the very brink of the precipice. The UNESCO sponsored Central Cultural Fund has restored Sigiriya 5th century water gardens to their former glory.

On completion proceed to Minneriya National park for an exciting wild life safari! (Approx Travel time from Sigiriya to Minneriya : 20 - 30 min drive)
Minneriya National Park - Minneriya national park is one of the best places in the country to see wild elephants, which are often present in huge numbers, and wading birds. Dominated by the ancient Minneriya Tank, the park has plenty of scrub, forest and wetlands in its 88.9 sq km to also provide shelter for toque macaques,  sambar  deer,  buffalo,  crocodiles  and  leopards  (the latter  are  very  rarely  seen  however).  Elephants,  which  can number 200 or more, come to feed and  bathe during  what is known as ‘the Gathering’; and flocks of birds, such as little cormorants, painted storks, herons and large pelicans all fish in the shallow waters.

Lastly, return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the hotel amenities.

DAY 03 - HABARANA / MATALE / KANDY
After breakfast at hotel, Check out from the hotel and proceed to Kandy. En route make a visit to the Spice
Garden in Matale. (Approx Travel time from Habarana to Matale : 01 - 01½ hrs drive)

Matale is famous for its batik production and spice gardens. Batik has  been  an  ancient  art  of  painting  cloth  and  today Sri  Lanka  is among the world leaders in the design of batik. Batik galleries and factories offer batik from simple single-colored designs to intricate multi-colored masterpieces. For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka's celebrated exports. Spices are mostly grown in home gardens (as a home industry) and used not only to flavor food but also for medicine and cosmetics.

Thereafter continue to Kandy the last kingdom of Sri Lanka and explore the beautiful city.

(Approx Travel time from Matale to Kandy: 01 - 01 ½ Hrs )

Kandy is a lovely city, the Hill Capital and last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings retains an aura of grandeur, which time has not affected. Encircled by hills, with a tranquil lake in its center, it is the site of the renowned "Temple of the Tooth". Kandy and its satellite villages is the center of the island’s handicraft industry and its traditional dances are the most spectacular in the country.

Later afternoon visit the Temple of the tooth relic after a small shopping tour in a Gem Lapidary.

Temple of the Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the City of Kandy. It is considered the foremost sacred place of worship in the Buddhist World. According to legend, the tooth was taken from the Buddha as he lay on his funeral pyre. It immediately became an object of great reverence and was enshrined in a series of nested jeweled reliquaries. On the outside, the temple buildings are not magnificent or elaborately decorated. While with red roofs, they cluster around Kandy Lake. In striking contrast to the plain exterior, the interiors of the temple buildings are richly carved and decorated with inlaid woods, ivory and lacquer. The relic of the tooth is kept in a two story inner shrine fronted by two large elephant tusks.

DAY 04 - KANDY / PERADENIYA / KANDY
After breakfast at hotel, proceed to Royal Botanical gardens.

This was originally the King’s own royal pleasure garden that was later converted in to a botanic garden and opened to the public. At the Royal Botanical Gardens at ‘Peradeniya’ you could treat your eyes to an amazing, wide and rare collection of tropical and temperate, exotic and indigenous flora, and an orchid house with the largest collection in Asia. On completion do a city tour of Kandy and then return to the Hotel

Polonnaruwa was established as the capital by King Vijayabahu I after Anuradhapura had been invaded in the late 10th century. However it was under King Parakramabu I, who ruled in the late 11th century, that Polonnaruwa became a magnificent walled city. He built the vast reservoir, Parakrama Samudra (the Sea of Parakrama) still in use today, and ordered the construction of monasteries, temples, palaces, bathing pools and Buddhist statues, all set in a forested park surrounded by moats. During his period of rule it is said that Sri Lanka was known as the Granary of the East.

DAY 3 - DAMBULLA / MATALE / KANDY
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed to Kandy. En route visit Dambulla cave temple.

Dambulla Cave Temple is a vast isolated rock mass and it was here that king Valagambahu took refuge in the 01st century B.C. when fleeing from his enemies. He later turned the caves into a rock temple. The Golden Temple of Dambulla has been the centre of pilgrimage for Buddhists and Hindus alike for 22 centuries. It is Sri Lanka’s most popular historic site. The Cave monastery, home to Buddhist monks is covered with exquisite
2,000 year-old murals depicting the life and times of the Lord Buddha. The shrines also house a collection of 157 statues of Buddha in various sizes and poses, including a 15 meter long reclining Buddha and vividly coloured
frescoes on the walls and ceiling, making this the largest antique painted surface in the world. On completion proceed to Kandy En route make a visit to a Spice Garden in Matale.

These classical dance forms are associated with the performance of various rituals and ceremonies which are centuries old and are based on the folk religion and folk beliefs going back to times before the advent and acceptance of Buddhism by the Sinhalese people in the third century B.C. .

DAY 04 - KANDY / PINNAWALA / KANDY

DAY 05 - KANDY / NUWARAELIYA
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to Nuwara Eliya (Approx Travel Time - 2 to 2 ½ Hours)

Enroute Stop by Ramboda Ella for a Visit.

Ramboda Ella is the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and located by the Pussellawa. Ramboda falls consists of three sections. You will get a good view of the middle section from the A5 highway, just above the bridge. This is very small in size with compared to other parts. You can get a far view of the top part from the main road, but not the complete view of the fall. You need to climb up to see the top part of the Ramboda falls and there is a pathway just before the bridge. You may find the climbing bit difficult, but you will be compensated with the great view of the top fall

Here   you   would   see   how   the   world’s   famous   “Ceylon   Tea”   is manufactured. In 1824 a tea plant was brought to Ceylon by the British from China and was planted in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya for non-commercial purposes. James Taylor was a British citizen who introduced commercial tea plantation in Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Today even people who have never heard of Sri Lanka are familiar with Ceylon tea, which is known for its quality.

Then proceed to Nuwara Eliya for a sight seeing tour.

Nuwara Eliya is set in the heart of tea-country is a beautiful town where the British succeeded in creating a replica of the English countryside, with homes in styles from Georgian to Queen Anne. Well-kept lawns with hedges, an Anglican church, a famous golf course and beautiful parks give the place an air of nostalgia. Situated 6,200 feet above sea level, the air is cool and fresh – a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Pony and Horse riding is available at the turf club of Nuwara Eliya to facilitate you with some sports and adventure.

DAY 06 - NUWARA ELIYA / ELLA / UDAWALAWE
After Breakfast, check out from the hotel and Proceed to Udawalawe via Ella. (Approx Travel time: 3 HRS - 4 HRS)

Ella is a small sleepy village positioned high in the mountains, on the southern edge of Sri Lanka's Hill Country. Most visitors happy to be there many days. But if you are willing to pass through out of town, you can find plenty of things to do to keep you occupied.
It's situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, with small vegetable plots in the valleys, tea plantations on the hill slopes and forests on the tops.

On completion, Check in to your hotel in Udawalawe and in the evening proceed to Udawalawe National park.

Udawalawa, Located  approximately 200 km south-east of Colombo city and is a major eco tourism destination in Sri Lanka. The 30,821 hectares dry zone  game  park  has  an  annual  rainfall  of  1524  mm  and  an  average temperat ure of 29.4°C. It is most famous for the many elephants that live there (about 400 in total). During a visit, it is not unusual to see whole herds of adults and young elephants feeding or bathing and playing in the water! In addition to this main attraction, the park is home to many water buffalo, water monitor lizards, sambar deer, monkeys and the occasional
leopard, as well as being an exciting location for bird enthusiasts.

Galle is a coastal town where the Dutch presence is still visible. Galle was an ancient port (said            to  be  the  legendary  Tarshish  of  the Bible), and our first international commerce and trade    centre.     Today, Galle is the bustling provincial capital and administrative centre of the south. It is famous for its lovely Unawatuna Bay, where the sea is reef protected and therefore safe     for swimming. The old Dutch “Star Fort” (a  World  Heritages  Site)  covering  36  hectares,  the  well-preserved
Groote Kerk (Dutch Church), Dutch Government House, the New Oriental Hotel (built in 1684) old bell tower and a tide-based Sewage-System, also introduced by the Dutch. In Galle they still make the Dutch ‘pillow-lace’ and do fine ebony carving and gem polishing.
