After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to visit the Galle dutch fort (approx Travel Time from Hotel to Galle - 45 Minutes to 01 Hour drive). Galle is a coastal town where the Dutch presence is still visible. Galle was an ancient port (said to be the legendary Tarshish of the Bible), and the first international commerce and trade centre.
Today, Galle is the bustling provincial capital and administrative centre of the south. It is famous for its lovely Unawatuna Bay, where the sea reef is protected and therefore safe for swimming. The old Dutch “Star Fort” (a World Heritages Site) covering 36 hectares, the well-preserved Groote Kerk (Dutch Church), Dutch Government House, the New Oriental Hotel (built in 1684) old bell tower and a tide-based Sewage-System, also introduced by the Dutch. In Galle they still make the Dutch ‘pillow-lace’ and do fine ebony carving and gem polishing. Upon completion proceed to visit Stilt fishing in Koggala ( Approx Travel Time from Galle to Koggala - 20 to 30 Minutes drive).
Stilt Fishing is one of the most interesting traditional fishing methods of Sri Lanka. ... the southern coast in towns such as Koggala, Kaththaluwa and Ahangama. On completion experience a boat ride in Bentota (Approx Travel Time from Koggala to Bentota - 01 to 1 ½ Hours drive). The safaris start at the final part of the broad Bentota River, close upon the Bentota Bridge and cruises inland. On this safari, you could explore the uncharted mangroves that are placed along the Bentota River. The boat drivers will meander through the islets and mangrove swamps located haphazardly on the river. They would delve into themangroves and sail amidst the tangled roots under the shelter ofshade provided by the trees and vines entangling each other.
Then visit the Turtle farm in Kosgoda. The beaches of Kosgoda are the nesting grounds for five species of marine turtles. They are the Green turtle, the Leatherback, theHawksbill the Loggerhead and the Olive Ridley. All 5 species have been recorded to nest along specific areas of Sri Lanka’s coast. Studies have indicated that beaches can be categorised in accordance with visitation by different species of turtles.
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Colombo and conduct a sight seeing tour (Approx Travel Time from Ahungalla to Colombo - 02 to 03 Hours drive). Sri Lanka’s commercial capital and the largest city with the highest population, Colombo is situated in the Western Province. It is a fascinating town which has a blend of eastern and western cultures where all colors of the island are drawn together. Many visitors appreciate the city’s colonial heritage and enjoy the vast range of shopping and dining outlets that can be located within the rushof its urban buzz. Upon completion return to the hotel and relax.
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Mirissa for a whale watching tour (Approx Travel Time from Ahungalla to Mirissa - 01 to 02 Hours drive). Located close to the Southern tip of the Island of Sri Lanka and only about 200 km from the Equator, this secluded crescent shaped beach is the perfect place to sit back, relax and forget about all the hustle and bustle of your other life that’s a million miles away. With research findings confirmed by many experts in the field that the deep southern waters off Sri Lanka [off Dondra point] is the best in the world for seeing blue and sperm whales, you are assured that your bet placed on the blue ocean in Sri Lanka has the highest probability of winning. The best of the best months are December -January and April whilst February and March are also too good to miss. Be sure to avoid choppy / rough days. Morning hours are the best. Upon completion return to the hotel and relax.
