Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Arrival in Sri Lanka
You will be transferred to your hotel upon arrival, where you can check in and relax after your long flight (approx. travel time: 45 minutes).
Overnight in Fairway Colombo with breakfast included.
After breakfast, leave for Galle, you will continue your journey along the west coast towards the southern tip of the island. You will have a stop at the Center of turtle conservation in Kosgoda (approx. travel time: 2 hours 30 minutes). This Sea Turtle Conservation was established in 1988 to protect Sri Lanka’s turtles from extinction. Since then it has released about 3.5 million baby turtles into the wild. Although October to April is the main laying season, some eggs (mostly green turtles) can be found at Kosgoda throughout the year.
Drive along the coast until to reach Galle, an old Dutch Port built around the fort, dating from the sixteenth century, with peaceful sea views. Having come to trade in the spices of the island, the Europeans have, in their turn, left a legacy, the most remarkable of which is Galle, a magnificent natural harbour at the southern tip, which keeps intact the ramparts and dwellings built by the Dutch in the 17th century. Having completed your tour of Galle, continue to Udawalawe (approx. travel time: 1 hour 30 minutes).
Overnight in Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort with breakfast included.
After breakfast, embark on a safari through the Udawalawe National Park. This 30,821 hectares is famed for its abundant elephant herds (almost 400 in total). During a visit, it is not unusual to see whole herds of adults and young elephants feeding or bathing and playing in the water.
In addition to this main attraction, the park is home to many water buffalo, water monitor lizards, sambar deer, monkeys and the occasional leopard, as well as being an exciting location for bird enthusiasts.
Overnight in Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort with breakfast included.
After breakfast, proceed to Nuwara Eliya, stopping at Ella en route (approx. travel time: 2 hours). Take a walk around this small town & admire the impressive landscapes, this sleepy village is nestled high in the mountains and the view are simply amazing.
On completion, continue to Nuwara Eliya (approx. travel time: 2 hours). Well-kept lawns with hedges, an Anglican church, a famous golf course and beautiful parks give the place an air of nostalgia. Situated 6,200 feet above sea level, the air is cool and fresh – a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
Overnight at Araliya Green Hills with breakfast included.
Proceed on a sightseeing tour of Nuwara Eliya where you will enjoy spectacular sceneries & the places of interest are endless around Nuwara Eliya. Highlights include the famous AnglicanChurch, strolling in the Victoria Park, boating on Gregory Lake, and pony/horse riding at the Turf Club.
On completion proceed to Kandy via Ramboda Falls (approx. travel time: 45 minutes).
Drive towards Kandy (approx. travel time: 2 hours). Kandy is perhaps Sri Lanka’s most beautiful town. Set 488 meters above sea level, Kandy is Sri Lanka’s most visited place after Colombo. The focal point of the town is the golden-roofed ‘Dalada Maligawa’, where the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha is enshrined. There are numerous shrines and temples in and around Kandy, where you will see rare paintings, frescoes, and stone carvings.
Overnight at Amaya Hills with breakfast included.
After breakfast, you will be taken on a tour of the Royal Botanical Gardens. These gardens are the largest in Sri Lanka and surely among the most beautiful in the world, this impressive garden is home to more than 60 hectares of hundreds of species including more than 300 varieties of orchids and a majestic fig tree of java whose branches extend on about 2500 m ².
In the afternoon, proceed on a tour of the Royal City of Kandy. Temple of the Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the City of Kandy. It is considered the foremost sacred place of worship in the Buddhist World. On the outside, the temple buildings are not magnificent or elaborately decorated. While with red roofs, they cluster around Kandy Lake. In striking contrast to the plain exterior, the interiors of the temple buildings are richly carved and decorated with inlaid woods, ivory and lacquer. The relic of the tooth is kept in a two story inner shrine fronted by two large elephant tusks.
After that witness a Cultural Dance performance in the evening. These classical dance forms are associated with the performance of various rituals and ceremonies which are centuries old and are based on the folk religion and folk beliefs going back to times before the advent and acceptance of Buddhism by the Sinhalese people in the third century B.C.
Overnight at Amaya Hills with breakfast included.
