Join your guide and continue the rest of the tour. Visit a Batik and Wood carving centre. Get an insight to local craft and arts, and finely cut gems.

As part of the cultural discoveries in Sri Lanka, don't miss visiting archaeological sites like Anuradhapura. This remarkable site offers a wonderful journey back in time to the fifth century BC.

Anuradhapura was the first capital of Sri Lanka, founded in 5 B.C. according to the early Sinhalese chronicle Mahavansa, and was a pre-eminent example of hydraulic civilisation. The construction of reservoirs, canals and irrigation channels at this time demonstrates an astonishing knowledge of trigonometry and the design of reservoirs a thorough understanding of hydraulic principles. Anuradhapura is furthermore dotted with picturesque stupas and lakes that have an irresistible attraction for visitors.

The programme takes 1-2 hours.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Your Optional Excursions

Udawalawe National Park Safari

Your Optional Excursions

Sinharaja has the characteristics of a tropical rainforest. It is the only significant rainforest on the island. The climate is balanced, with some rain in all seasons. Most of the native birds and plants can be seen in Sinharaja.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Sinharaja Rainforest is the last remaining rainforest in Sri Lanka. It is home to most (nearly 95%) of Sri Lanka's native birds, giant butterflies and over 50% of Sri Lanka's native mammals.

The most amazing sight at Sinharaja is the dazzling colours and stark contrasts of the large mixed flocks of birds feeding and flying in the forest.

This lowland forest is considered one of the best birding areas in Sri Lanka: 22 of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic bird species have been seen here. Even the most inexperienced birders can spot 10-15 species.

Sri Lanka is a lush, tropical island paradise, famously described by Marco Polo as "undoubtedly the finest island of its size in the world". This is a culturally rich and environmentally diverse country, with nine World Heritage Sites (the oldest dating back to the 3rd Century BC); 86 species of mammals (including elephant and leopard) and more than 400 bird species (including 26 endemics);

a colorful array of flowering plants and trees, and a Hill Country famous for tea; 14 National Parks out of 100 areas protected by the government; and an Indian Ocean coastline boasting palm-fringed and sandy tropical beaches.

Visit ancient sites and marvel over  legendary temples, or see the sacred home of the world’s oldest living tree, Anuradhapura. Take a safari tour in one of Sri Lanka’s national parks to encounter elephants, leopards, water buffaloes, and exotic birds, or spend the day relaxing on the dazzlingly white, often untrodden, beaches.

Try your hand at a little surfing or retreat up into the Sri Lankan hills to experience a more temperate climate and the lavish greenery of the tea plantations. And if you can even trek through the rainforests with an experienced guide or just take in the breathtaking vistas on a spectacular train ride.

  • ATTIRE: Comfortable cotton clothing and flat shoes are best when travelling. Shorts, t-shirts, and slippers are accepted. However, when visiting temples, clothes worn must cover shoulders and knees. Headwear and footwear must be removed before entering a temple. At hotels, casual attire at breakfast and lunch is accepted but at dinner guests are expected to be attired in smart casual attire. Sunglasses and suncream are recommended during the day. You may find mosquitoes when travelling through more tropical areas, so repellent is advised, and can be purchased at local pharmacies.

Use safety lockers if provided in rooms for your valuables, or lock them securely in your luggage. Don't leave valuables, including passports, lying around in your hotel room when you aren't there. When moving around in public, ensure your wallet is secure and ideally, divide your money in different holders to minimize the risk if lost or stolen.
  • FOOD: Avoid eating from wayside kiosks; eat at places your escort would recommend, as through experience, they know how safe it is. If you have any allergies, inform the restaurant before ordering. Avoid eating already pre-cut fruit in wayside kiosks; insist they are washed and cut in your presence.

  • SAFETY: Always keep a close watch over your children; please don't allow them near balconies and lifts, or get on / off vehicles on the tour without your close supervision.
  • TIPPING: Tips are not included in your program inclusions. Tipping is not compulsory, however it will be appreciated if given after you've received good service.
  • SHOPPING: You aren't required to do any shopping or visit shops. Several items sold in Sri Lanka both to locals and tourists including gems and precious stones, spices, hand-carved wood, brass and iron items, batiks and fabrics have been created by local artisans for generations.
