Your Destination

Sri Lanka is a lush, tropical island paradise, known to ancient Greek mariners as Taprobane. Arab traders called it Serendib – hence the word "serendipity", meaning discovery by happy accident. It was famously described by Marco Polo as "undoubtedly the finest island of its size in the world".

This is a culturally rich and environmentally diverse country, with 9 World Heritage Sites (the oldest dating back to the 3rd Century BC); 86 species of mammals (including elephant and leopard) and more than 400 bird species (including 26 endemics); a colorful array of flowering plants and trees, and a Hill Country famous for tea; 14 National Parks out of 100 areas protected by the government; and an Indian Ocean coastline boasting palm-fringed and sandy tropical beaches.

Your Itinerary (8 Nights)

Day 1: Colombo - Rathnapura - Uduwalawe
Upon your arrival in Colombo, you will be greeted by your driver who will take you straight to Uduwalawe, passing through Rathnapura. Once there, you will settle in the hotel. You will be free to relax or explore for the rest of the day.

Day 2: Uduwalawe - Buduruwagala - Ella - Bandarawela
In the late afternoon, you will embark on a jeep safari of about 3 hours so you can admire a variety of wildlife: birds, crocodiles, spotted deer, wild buffaloes but also herds of elephants! After your safari, you will take the road towards Ella. On the way, you will visit the extraordinary site of Buduruwagala, located in the heart of nature where several statues have been carved into the rock. You will then continue to Ella where you will find sumptuous landscapes, hills and breathtaking views of the plains. On route, you will stop in front of the waterfall Ravana Falls.

Day 3: Bandarawela - Nanuoya - Nuwara Eliya - Daulagala
You will take the road to Bandarawela station where the train to Nanuoya will be waiting for you. Considered one of the most beautiful railroads in the world, you will cross tea plantations on mountain landscapes. Once you arrive, you will take the path to Nuwara Eliya and visit the former summer residence of the British governor. Nuwara Eliya will remind you of England with its Victorian villas, rose gardens, pristine lawns, golf course and above all, its cool and misty climate. You will take a tour of the city and continue your way to Daulagala. Visit a tea plantation and a factory where you will learn the different processes of making tea.
Day 4: Daulagala - Kandy - Daulagala
Transfer to Kandy and visit the Buddha Tooth Temple (Dalada Maligawa). Every day, hundreds of Buddhist pilgrims come to pray at the precious relic. Then continue to Peradeniya and visit the botanical gardens. You will discover a variety of trees, flowers, spices and fruits that will surprise you. In the late afternoon, you will have the pleasure of visiting a gemstone workshop.

Day 5: Daulagala - Matale - Dambulla - Habarana
Next, a journey to the region of Matale where you will see a Batik workshop before visiting a garden of spices. You will discover the different spices grown in Ceylon, then the compositions, creams and mixtures made from them. You will continue your way to Sigiriya and visit the rock temple of Dambulla. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991, the Golden Temple of Dambulla is a rock monastery, with five caves sanctuaries that are entirely decorated with Buddhist murals. All vermilion and ocher, this shimmering work covers no less than 2100m².
Day 6: Habana - Sigirya - Habarana
Next, ride an exhilarating tuk-tuk that oxcarts through the countryside. You will then sail on a small lake, through lotus and water lilies, aboard a catamaran. You will then visit a plantation before going to a village house where you will be given a local cooking demonstration. In the afternoon, you will climb the Lion Rock, a rocky peak transformed into a fortress palace. The ascent of the rock is made by a staircase on the mountainside and lasts about 3 hours.

Day 7: Habarana -Polonnaruwa - Habarana
Transfer to Polonnaruwa and visit this ancient city, where remains have been covered by the rainforest. It's the Medieval capital of Ceylon, on the romantic lake of Parakrama. Sri Lanka

You will need a visa to enter Sri Lanka. You can get a short stay visa online at Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). Tourist visas are normally issued for a maximum period of 30 days. Although it’s still possible to get a tourist visa on arrival, it’s better to get one before you travel. If you arrive in Sri Lanka without a visa, you could face delays. For the most up-to-date advice on visas check with the Sri Lankan High Commission in the UK. If you experience any difficulty with the ETA System, or if you’re travelling for paid or unpaid work, you should get a visa from the Sri Lankan High Commission before you travel.

Overstaying your visa will attract a fine and possible detention and deportation. If you have overstayed your visa, you must report to the Department of Immigration & Emigration

Visas on arrival have been suspended for all travellers arriving from Sierra Leone and Guinea.
