This is a culturally rich and environmentally diverse country, with nine World Heritage Sites (the oldest dating back to the 3rd Century BC); 86 species of mammals (including elephant and leopard) and more than 400 bird species (including 26 endemics); a colorful array of flowering plants and trees, and a Hill Country famous for tea; 14 National Parks out of 100 areas protected by the government; and an Indian Ocean coastline boasting palm-fringed and sandy tropical beaches.
Visit ancient sites and marvel over legendary temples, or see the sacred home of the world’s oldest living tree, Anuradhapura. Take a safari tour in one of Sri Lanka’s national parks to encounter elephants, leopards, water buffaloes, and exotic birds, or spend the day relaxing on the dazzlingly white, often untrodden, beaches. Try your hand at a little surfing or retreat up into the Sri Lankan hills to experience a more temperate climate and the lavish greenery of the tea plantations. And if you can even trek through the rainforests with an experienced guide or just take in the breathtaking vistas on a spectacular train ride.

Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Arrival in Colombo
Upon arrival, you will be met by a chauffeur who will transfer you via your air conditioned vehicle to to your hotel in Dambulla for for 2 night stay (approx. transfer time: 4hrs - 4hrs 30min).
Overnight at The Paradise or similar with breakfast included.
After breakfast leave for the Sigiriya Rock Fortress where you could climb the 1200 steps and admire the fabulous frescoes on the walls of the ancient rock fortress (approx. transfer time: 20min). This fortress is commonly known as the 8th wonder of the world and dates back to 5th century A.D.
On completion visit Minneriya National Park (approx transfer time: 1hr - 1hr 30min). Located between Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa, Minneriya is yet another heaven for the elephants that migrate from surrounding jungles to enjoy the lush grass fields on the banks of the Minneriya reservoir, during the dry season. Reports of elephant sightings range from an impressive 100 to 200. Endemic monkeys as well as many resident and migratory bird species also can be spotted along with endemic reptiles such as the painted-lip lizard. Among the reptiles that dwell here, are the saltwater crocodile, the Indian python and the water monitor. Upon completion you will be returned to your hotel.

After breakfast check out from the hotel & proceed to Dambulla Cave Temple (approx. transfer time: 20min). Dambulla Cave Temple is a vast isolated rock mass and is widely regarded as Sri Lanka’s most popular historic site. The Cave monastery, home to Buddhist monks is covered with exquisite 2,000 year-old murals depicting the life and times of the Lord Buddha.
Upon completion, proceed to Anuradhapura railway station to catch the train to Jaffna (approx. transfer time: 1 1/2 - 2 hours). The region is gradually emerging from its long years of isolation and fighting, and the painful process of rebuilding of shattered towns and villages, de-mining fields, restoring roads and returning refugees to their former homes is likely to continue for some time to come. For the explorer, the north is Sri Lanka’s final frontier, and offers an opportunity to explore a region emerging from over twenty years of isolation and civil war.

After breakfast proceed to Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, a temple that is considered as the most prominent Hindu religious attraction in the Jaffna peninsula. Upon completion proceed to Point Pedro (approx. transfer time: 20min) where you will find a concrete Flag at Point Pedro to indicate one end of Sri Lanka.
From there you will drive along the northern tip of Sri Lanka to Keerimalai springs and Naguleswaram Temple. The mineral springs are renowned for their healing properties. Nearby and in the interior is the important historical site of Kandarodai or Kandurugoda.
Afterwards drive to Karaitivu and take a relaxing swim in the sea at Casuarina Beach. This beach on Karaitivu Island is best reached from the west side of the Jaffna peninsula along the Ponnalai Casuseway.

Day 5: Jaffna - Nagadeepa - Delft Island - Jaffna
After breakfast at the hotel proceed to Delft Island (Nedunateevu). Palmyra palm trees, dry shrubs and semi arid tropical type plants can be seen all around you. To the west of the island you can see a ruined complex of south Indian chola Architecture. A ruined dagoba, is positioned beside the ruins.
Upon Completion proceed to Nagadeepa (approx. transfer time: 1hr by boat). The Nagadeepa Rajamaha Viharaya is one of the sixteen most sacred places of worship by the Buddhists in Sri Lanka. Pilgrims have been coming to the Nagadeepa since about the 1st century AC to worship at its famous Rajayathana stupa. Next you will proceed to Kurikadduwan for a 20 minute boat ride over the Palk Bay and then return to the hotel.

Today, after breakfast, proceed to your fabulous beach stay in Chilaw spend rest of the day at leisure by beach or pool and enjoying the other facilities of the hotel en route visit Anuradhapura ancient city for site scenes (approx. transfer time: 3hrs 30min - 4hrs drive).
Visit the ruins of the first capital founded in the 05th century BC. Here is found the largest number of ancient monuments of a great civilization. Buddhism found its first real home in Sri Lanka at Anuradhapura, and it thus contains some of Sri Lankan Buddhism’s most secret sights. Upon completion proceed to Chilaw (approx. transfer time: 2hrs - 2hrs 30min).
Dinner and Overnight at Anantaya Resort & Spa Chilaw, Chilaw or Similar.
Day 7 - 10, 12 or 14: Chilaw
