Your Itinerary —
You will be met on arrival at Colombo International Airport by Antiquity Representative and transferred to Negombo. Check in at Jetwing Blue 4*, the rest of your day is at leisure.
Day 2. Negombo / Pinnawela / Maulkelle
Breakfast at Hotel before leaving for Kandy. En route you will visit the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela, home to about 89 elephants (some of which are baby elephants found abandoned or orphaned in the wild). The best time to visit is during the feeding times, when one will have the opportunity of seeing the baby elephants being bottle-fed. It is also possible to accompany the elephants to a river close-by and see them having their daily bath! Check in at Madulkelle Tea & Eco Lodge, dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 3. Madulkelle.
Breakfast at hotel (09.30am) before leaving on the tea tour transportation (tuk-tuk). Here you will learn about the harvest, production and brewing of a fine cup of Ceylon tea. The experience begins at the hotel’s tea estate where you will learn the art of picking tea alongside tea pickers, before visiting a working tea factory to see withering and packaging processes.
You will also get to enjoy a tea tasting session, either at the factory or back at the hotel. Return to your hotel for lunch and relaxation before trekking on your bird-watching experience. Leaving the hotel around 3.30pm, you will experience local hill country life, witness emeral landscapes dotted with Hindu Temples and tea communities and trek through old Ceylon’s ancient tea valleys. During your journey you may see some of the endemic birds like the Ceylon hanging parrot or the Sri Lankan Grackle! Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast at hotel before leaving for Kandy. Proceed on an orientation tour of Kandy. Visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and expanded by the British. It is 147 acres and provides an amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers. Check in at OZO Kandy and spent the rest of your afternoon at leisure. In the evening you will visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and thereafter witness a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing. Return to hotel for overnight stay.
Breakfast at hotel before transferring to Peradeniya Railway Station for a scenic train journey through tea plantations and waterfalls up to Nanu Oya. On arrival at Nanu Oya railway station transfer to Nuwara Eliya, visiting Pedro Tea Plantation and Factory en route. Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resort. Nuwara Eliya is also the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country, producing a significant share of the world’s best tea. Sri Lanka’s highest mountain Pidurutalagala (8282 feet) is located here. Nuwara-Eliya also has one of the finest 18 hole golf courses in South Asia. Check in at Grand Hotel for overnight stay.
Guests will embark on an early morning drive to Horton Plains with a packed breakfast. Here you will take a moderate trek of 9km from the main entrance. Explore the grasslands and forests on offer, with spectacular views and vistas. Return to your hotel in late afternoon for a sightseeing tour of Nuwara Eliya. Overnight stay at hotel.
Breakfast at hotel before leaving for Udawalawe via Elle and Wellawaya. Check in at Grand Udawalawe Safari Hotel before proceeding on a Jeep Safari to visit the Uda-Walawe National Park. This national park was established in 1972 to protect the catchment area of the Uda Walawe reservoir, crucial to the livelihoods of the farmers in the south east dry zone.
With the land only recently reverting back from cultivation, the park has some fascinating characteristics that make it well worth a visit. Not least of these is the large elephant population. Uda Walawe is the most reliable place to see elephants in their wild habitat year round. Some 400-500 elephants live in the park and herds of up to 50 are commonly seen. The open plains are covered in thick manna grass up to the borders of the large reservoir in the centre and the Walawe river. The park is also covered by some abandoned teak plantation and dense scrub jungle. This variety in habitat makes for a rich variety of wildlife and game. As well as elephants, leopards live in the park (though you will be very lucky to spot one), toque monkeys, grey langur, spotted deer, wild pig and sambar. There are numerous bird species of course and Uda Walawe is particularly rich in raptor species, among them the white bellied sea eagle and the crested serpent eagle. Return to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 8. Udawalwe / Mirrissa.
Breakfast at hotel before leaving for Mirrissa. Check in at Mandara Resort and enjoy day at leisure.
Day 9. Mirrissa / Beach.
Early morning proceed to the boat pier with a packed breakfast. Embark on a boat to witness whales which will take 4-6 hours. Water, tea & coffee will be available throughout the boat trip. Return to hotel and then depart for airport or your beach resort.

Day 11 or 13. Departure.
Please note: whale watching is seasonal from November - April. When travelling off season, you will transfer directly to beach resort.
