Day 2: Habarana - Sigiriya - Minneriya - Habarana
After breakfast, leave the hotel at 7 am and travel 20-30 minutes to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress where you can climb the 1200 steps and admire the fabulous frescoes on the walls of the ancient rock fortress (this is not recommended for clients with Vertigo & walking difficulties). The Sigiriya Rock Fortress is known as the 8th wonder of the world. This rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. In a sheltered a pocket, approached by a spiral stairway, you will find the famous frescoes. The summit of the rock, with an area of nearly one hectare, was the site of the palace and the outer wall was built on the very brink of the precipice. The UNESCO sponsored Central Cultural Fund has restored the Sigiriya 5th-century water gardens to their former glory.
Afterwards, proceed to the Minneriya National Park (45-minute - 1 hour drive). Minneriya is yet another haven for the elephants that migrate from surrounding jungles to enjoy the lush grass fields on the banks of the Minneriya reservoir during the dry season. Reports of elephant sightings range from an impressive 100 to 200. The central feature of the park is the ancient Minneriya Tank (built in 3rd century AD by King Mahasena). This tank is generally known as a place to observe the elephants that come to bathe and graze on the grasses as well as the huge flocks of birds that come to fish in the shallow waters. Depending on the movement of the elephants, your chauffeur will decide the best park to visit among Minneriya, Kaudulla and Eco park. Upon completion return to hotel and relax.

Today after breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to Kandy. En-route, visit Matale's famous spice gardens. For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka's celebrated exports. Spices are mostly grown in home gardens (as a home industry) and used not only to flavour food but also for medicine and cosmetics (15-20 minute drive from Habarana to Matale).
Upon completion, continue your journey to Kandy and visit the Temple of the Tooth (60-90 minute drive). Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. It is located in the royal palace complex, which houses the Relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple. In the evening, enjoy a cultural show. These shows essentially comprise various styles of Kandyan dance, and are quite popular with visitors to the Hill Capital. The Centre overlooks the scenic lake as it is located along its shore. Early Birds can also enjoy the handicraft workshops that are located alongside the Centre.
Overnight stay at Thilanka Kandy or Similar.
Today after breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to Kandy's Railway station to catch your train to Nanu Oya. (3.5-4 hour train journey). Enjoy the picturesque journey as the train snakes its way through the mountains and Sri Lanka's tea country. Upon arrival at the Nanu Oya railway station, you will be picked up by your chauffeur guide and will proceed to Nuwara Eliya for a small sight-seeing tour of this amazing location. Afterwards, check-in to your hotel. Nuwara Eliya is a city in the tea-country hills of central Sri Lanka. The naturally landscaped Hakgala Botanical Gardens displays roses and tree ferns, and shelters monkeys and blue magpies. Nearby, the Seetha Amman Temple, a colorful Hindu shrine, is decorated with religious figures. The densely forested Galway's Land National Park is a sanctuary for endemic and migratory bird species, including bulbuls and flycatchers. Afterwards, spend the rest of the day at leisure.
