Colombo, Sri Lanka‘s bustling commercial hub, is located on the country’s west coast and with a population of between 800,000 and one million is by far most developed. Its natural harbour at the mouth of the Kelani River was a magnet for successive traders and conquerors – initially the Arab merchants, then Portuguese, Dutch and British imperialists. Originally named Kolomthota, Colombo was the main seaport of Kotte, the country’s 15th and 16th century capital. The Fort is still a focal point of government and commercial activity and Pettah has become a district of small shops, markets, and sidewalk stalls, with all the characteristic features of an Oriental bazaar. Thereafter continue your journey to visit the ancient city of Anuradhapura (Approx Travel Time from Negombo to Anuradhapura – 03 to 04 hours’ drive).
Visit the ruins of the first capital founded in the 05th century BC. Here is found the largest number of ancient monuments of a great civilization. The “Sri Maha Bodhi tree in Anuradhapura, planted from a cutting from the original “Bo Tree” under which the Buddha received enlightenment, continue to draw thousands of Buddhist pilgrims from around the world. The pillars of the brazen palace which once had nine stories, the image of the Samadhi Buddha which is one of the finest pieces of Buddhists sculpture, the twin ponds, guard-stones and the moon-stones are amazing remains of a great civilization. There are also monuments such as Ruwanveli Seya Dageba with its famous elephant wall from the 2nd Century B.C. and the Thuparama Dageba from the 3rd Century B.C. On completion proceed to hotel, check in and relax (Approx. Travel Time from Anuradhapura to Dambulla –1½ to 02 hours’ drive).

This is a typical countryside experience with bullock cart rides and rural vegetable cultivation. You'll be departing early from the hotel to begin a beautiful walk over village paths, a tank bund and forest. A ride on a bullock cart along a dirt track and through rice paddies down to the picturesque Hiriwadunna Lake will leave you with a sense of peacefulness. A catamaran ride on the lake with its large variety of dry zone bird life and views of the surrounding forest, marshland and vegetable plots of local farmers, will be an unforgettable experience for visitors and will most definitely be one of the places they feel most at peace, during the time spent in Sri Lanka. You will also indulge in an authentic village type lunch prepared by our host.
Thereafter proceed to visit Minneriya National Park with an amazing Jeep safari experience (Approx Travel Time from Hiriwadunna to Minneriya – 20 - 30 Minutes’ drive). This tank is generally known as a place to observe the elephants that come to bathe and graze on the grasses as well as the huge flocks of birds that come to fish in the shallow waters. **Depending on the movement of the elephant herds of the particular day the chauffeur will decide the best park to visit among Minneriya, Kaudulla and Eco Park. On completion return to hotel and relax. Overnight stay in Dambulla.
