Your Destinations

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a lush, tropical island paradise, known to ancient Greek mariners as Taprobane. Arab traders called it Serendib – hence the word "serendipity", meaning discovery by happy accident. It was famously described by Marco Polo as "undoubtedly the finest island of its size in the world". This is a culturally rich and environmentally diverse country, with 9 World Heritage Sites (the oldest dating back to the 3rd Century BC); 86 species of mammals (including elephant and leopard) and more than 400 bird species (including 26 endemics); a colorful array of flowering plants and trees, and a Hill Country famous for tea; 14 National Parks out of 100 areas protected by the government; and an Indian Ocean coastline boasting palm-fringed and sandy tropical beaches.

Maldives

Unrivalled luxury, stunning white-sand beaches and an amazing underwater world make the Maldives an obvious choice for a true holiday of a lifetime. The Maldives is home to perhaps the best beaches in the world; they’re on almost every one of the country’s nearly 1200 islands and are so consistently perfect that it’s hard not to become blasé about them.

With some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world, the clear waters of the Maldives are a magnet for anyone with an interest in marine life. The richness and variety is astonishing; dazzling coral walls, magnificent caves and schools of brightly coloured tropical fish await you when you get down to the reef. In deeper waters lurk manta rays, turtles, sharks and even the world’s largest fish, the whale shark. The best bit? The water is so warm many people don’t even wear a wetsuit.

Day 2: Habarana - Dambulla - Matale - Kandy
Today after breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to visit Dambulla Cave Temple. (Approx Travel Time from Habarana to Dambulla - 15 to 20 Minute drive).

Dambulla Cave Temple is a vast isolated rock mass and it was here that king Valagambahu took refuge in the 01st century B.C. He later turned the caves into a rock temple. Dambulla is a world heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceiling found here are over 2000 years old and is the largest area of painting found in the world. The caves contain over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 14 meters. Dambulla is a massive rock from the surrounding plains of Dambulla of 600 feet high which includes climbing of steps as well as walking on the plain boulder. *Not recommended for clients with walking difficulties.

On completion proceed to visit the Spice Garden in Matale. (Approx Travel Time from Dambulla to Matale - 1 to 1 ½ Hours drive). Matale is famous for spice gardens. For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka's celebrated exports. Spices are mostly grown in home gardens (as a home industry) and used not only to flavor food but also for medicine and cosmetics. On completion continue your journey to Kandy and check in to the hotel.

Dinner and overnight accommodation at Thilanka Kandy or similar.
Day 3: Kandy
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Royal Botanical gardens. (Approx Travel Time from Kandy to Peradeniya - 15 to 20 Minutes’ drive). This was originally the King’s own royal pleasure garden that was later converted in to a botanic garden and opened to the public. At the Royal Botanical Gardens at ‘Peradeniya’ you could treat your eyes to an amazing, wide and rare collection of tropical and temperate, exotic and indigenous flora, and an orchid house with the largest collection in Asia. On completion, embark on a city tour of Kandy.

Later in the afternoon, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. This relic is a Buddhist temple in the City of Kandy. It is considered the foremost sacred place of worship in the Buddhist World. According to legend, the tooth was taken from the Buddha as he lay on his funeral pyre. It immediately became an object of great reverence and was enshrined in a series of nested jeweled reliquaries. On the outside, the temple buildings are not magnificent or elaborately decorated. While with red roofs, they cluster around Kandy Lake. In striking contrast to the plain exterior, the interiors of the temple buildings are richly carved and decorated with inlaid woods, ivory and lacquer. The relic of the tooth is kept in a two story inner shrine fronted by two large elephant tusks.

After that, witness a Cultural Dance performance in the evening. These classical dance forms are associated with the performance of various rituals and ceremonies which are centuries old. Based on the folk religion and folk beliefs, these dances date back before the advent and acceptance of Buddhism by the Sinhalese people in the third century B.C. On completion, return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the hotel amenities.

Dinner and overnight accommodation at Thilanka Kandy or similar.
Day 4: Kandy - Nanu Oya - Ella - Udawale
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to the railway station to catch your train to Nanu Oya. Please note that the train tickets are subject to availability. You will leave to railway station, and board the train to leave for Nanu Oya. Enjoy the picturesque journey, the train snaking its way through the mountains through the tea country. The vehicle will follow you to Nanu Oya, the last station before Nuwara Eliya. On arrival at the Nanu Oya railway station, you will be picked up by your chauffeur guide and proceed to Ella (Approx Travel Time from Nanu  Oya to Ella - 1 1/2 to 2 Hrs drive).

Ella is a small sleepy village positioned high in the mountains, on the southern edge of Sri Lanka's Hill Country. Most visitors happy to be there many days. But if you are willing to pass through out of town, you can find plenty of things to do to keep you occupied. It's situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, with small vegetable plots in the valleys, tea plantations on the hill slopes and forests on the tops. On completion proceed to Udawalawe (Approx Travel Time from Ella to Udawalawe - 2 to 3 Hrs drive). On arrival, check in to the hotel and free for leisure.

Dinner and overnight accommodation at Grand Udawalawe Resort or similar.

Day 5: Udawalawe - Colombo
Udawalawe , located approximately 200 km south-east of Colombo city, is a major ecotourism destination in Sri Lanka. The 30,821 hectares dry zone game park has an annual rainfall of 1524 mm and an average temperature of 29.4°C. It is most famous for the many elephants that live there (about 400 in total). During a visit, it is not unusual to see whole herds of adults and young elephants feeding or bathing and playing in the water! In addition to this main attraction, the park is home to many water buffalo, water monitor lizards, sambar deer, monkeys and the occasional leopard, as well as being an exciting location for bird enthusiasts.
