Your Destinations

Sri Lanka is a lush, tropical island paradise, known to ancient Greek mariners as Taprobane. Arab traders called it Serendib – hence the word "serendipity", meaning discovery by happy accident. It was famously described by Marco Polo as "undoubtedly the finest island of its size in the world". With fabulously flavoursome food and a vast array of culturally rich experiences to delve into, Sri Lanka promises to be one of your best-loved travel destinations.

This is an environmentally diverse country, with
nine World Heritage Sites (the oldest dating back to the 3rd Century BC), 86 species of mammals (including elephants and leopards), more than 400 bird species, a colorful array of flowering plants and trees, a Hill Country famous for tea, 14 National Parks and an Indian Ocean coastline boasting palm-fringed and sandy tropical beaches.

Your 10-Night Itinerary

Day 1: Katunayake - Kandy
Upon touching down at the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will start your journey towards the last kingdom of Sri Lanka - Kandy. Once you arrive at the hotel, check-in and relax as you enjoy the cool breeze of the hill capital.

Most often referred to as the hill capital of Sri Lanka, Kandy offers a diverse variety of experiences to its visitors ranging from history, culture and simple scenic beauty coupled with a touch of urbanity. It was the last Sinhalese Kingdom that fell under British rule in 1815. The journey to this mellow weathered city can be quite enjoyable, particularly by train owing to the scenic delights that lie alongside.

The city’s colonial architecture has been preserved well even in the backdrop of rapid urbanization. Close to the city’s centre is the prime landmark - Sri Dalada Maligawa that houses the sacred tooth relic of Buddha. Apart from the ancient monuments of the Kandyan era, the delightful jumble of antique shops and the bustling market in the city also make up for interesting places of visit.

Nestled within the lush green surroundings of the ancient kingdom of Kandy, Earl’s Regent is the ideal Kandy hotel that showcases the very essence of our authentic Kandyan heritage. Experience the warmest of hospitality and the best of comforts throughout your stay, here at your home in the hills! here at your home in the hills! Overnight at Earl's Regent Hotel or similar.

The gardens are not only delightful spots for a stroll amidst the fragrant greenery but also offer interesting perspectives into the local spices, as the visitors are educated on the diverse variety of spices available in the country as well as on how they are grown and processed.
Once you arrive in Pasikudah, check in and spend the rest of the day at leisure sulking up the golden sun. Passikudah is a pristine beach stretch located along the Eastern coast of Sri Lanka that offers its travellers a refreshing beach holiday.

The unspoilt beauty of the paradisiacal coasts of Passikudah - the white, sandy beaches and the calm, turquoise waters are unrivalled. The Kandy Esala Perahera (the Esala procession of Kandy) also known as The Festival of the Tooth is a grand festival celebrated with elegant costumes and is held in July and August in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This historical procession is held annually to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, which is housed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. A unique symbol of Sri Lanka, the procession consists of many traditional local dances such as fire-dances, whip-dances, Kandyan dances and various other cultural dances, in addition to the elephants who are usually adorned with lavish garments. Your Excursions

Optional Excursions

You may choose to add the following excursions at the next stage of the booking process.

Whale Watching
Sri Lanka is fast becoming a hot spot for watching Whales and Dolphins. Whale watching has now become firmly established during the East Coast Season. Between March to August, Trincomalee has high strike rates for Blue Whales and Sperm Whales and even higher for Dolphins, mainly Spinner Dolphins. Duration of Experience: 4 hrs.
Hummanaya Blow Hole
Located in Mawella, a small town in Dickwella, this vent is a natural phenomenon. Seaspray, due to the high pressure of the water, vaporises through a blowhole, sometimes reaching a height of 40 to 50 feet. This usually happens during the monsoon season and attracts a lot of people.
Sinharaja Rainforest
The Sinharaja Rainforest, which translates as "Lion's Kingdom," is located one hour from Dickwella. Home to many species, this National Park is a mecca of biodiversity and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Many bird watching expeditions take place throughout the year. One of them is the mixed species bird herd study, conducted since 1981. A trek through dense vegetation with binoculars, a camera and a guide is the only way to enjoy the beauty that is Sinharaja.
Udawalawe National Park
Udawalawe, home to 400 Asian elephants in Sri Lanka, is in the southern province of the island, 90 minutes from Dickwella. Other than elephants, this remarkable dry-zone game park is ideal for a safari expedition to observe leopards, sambar deer, water buffaloes and birds.
Visit Galle and Galle Fort
About 40 minutes from Dickwella is Galle, the capital city of the Southern Province of the island, which is the home of a magnificent Dutch fort, the most popular attraction in the town. Built by the Dutch in 1663, this 36-hectare fort occupies most of the promontory that forms the older part of Galle. It is interesting to note that many Old Dutch buildings are still intact inside the fort and colonial architectural styles are still very popular. UNESCO has recognized the fort as a World Heritage Site.
Yala National Park
About two hours' drive from Dickwella, Yala National Park is one of the island's most prominent national parks, boasting beautiful scenery and an abundance of wildlife, flora and foliage. Located in the southern region of the island, it is home to various species of animals that have made the park their natural habitat. Yala is also known for its ancient monastery caves as well as for the salt pans of the Palapatuna Sea, all of which are worth watching as you head for it.
