Your Itinerary —
Arrival at Colombo International Airport. Here, you will be met by a designated chauffeur guide from Hayleys Tours. After the formalities at the airport, you will be escorted to your air-conditioned vehicle to travel to Sigiriya.

After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress.

Climb the fortress which is known as the 8th wonder of the world. This rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa in 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. In a sheltered pocket, approached by a spiral stairway, are the famous frescoes. The summit of the rock, with an area of nearly one hectare, was the site of the palace. The UNESCO sponsored Central Cultural Fund has restored Sigiriya 5th century water gardens to their former glory.
Next, enjoy an exciting jeep safari at Minneriya National park.
(Approx Travel Time from Sigiriya to Minneriya - 30 to 40 minutes drive)
Minneriya is a haven for the elephants that migrate from surrounding jungles to enjoy the lush grass fields on the banks of the Minneriya reservoir. Reports of elephant sightings range from an impressive 100 to 200. The central feature of the park is the ancient Minneriya Tank (built in 3rd century AD by King Mahasena). This tank is generally known as a place to observe the elephants that come to bathe and graze on the grasses as well as the huge flocks of birds that come to fish in the shallow waters. Afterwards, return to the hotel & have a small cycling tour if time permits.

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to visit Dambulla Golden Cave Temple.

Dambulla Cave Temple is a vast isolated rock mass; it was here that king Valagambahu took refuge in 1st century B.C. He later turned the caves into a rock temple. Dambulla is a world heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples.
The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceiling found here are over 2000 years old. It's the largest area of painting found in the world. The caves contain over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 14 meters. Next, proceed to Kandy and en-route visit a spice garden in Matale.

Matale is famous for spice gardens. For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka's celebrated exports. Spices are mostly grown in home gardens and used not only to flavour food but also for medicine and cosmetics. Kandy is a lovely city, the Hill Capital and last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings retains an aura of grandeur. Encircled by hills, with a tranquil lake in its center, it is the site of the renowned "Temple of the Tooth". Kandy is the centre of the island’s handicraft industry and its traditional dances are the most spectacular in the country. On arrival check in to the hotel. Thereafter, visit The Temple of the Tooth Relic which houses the Relic of the tooth of Buddha.
Now witness a Cultural Dance performance in the evening. These classical dance forms are associated with the performance of various rituals and ceremonies which are centuries old and are based on the folk religion before the advent and acceptance of Buddhism by the Sinhalese people in the third-century B.C.

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to Kandy Railway station to catch your train to Nanu Oya.

Enjoy the picturesque journey, the train snaking its way through the mountains through the tea country. Wander through the trails of British colonial era with buildings ranging from Georgian to Queen Anne, Golf course with 18 holes, the hill club of the English Tea Planters. Stay overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
On arrival at the Nanu Oya railway Station, you will be picked up by your chauffeur guide to proceed to Ella. En route visit Nuwara Eliya for a small sightseeing tour of this amazing location. Nuwara Eliya, popularly known as 'Little England' named as a result of the houses and other buildings built by the British during their time of reign following English architectural styles. Many of these buildings still remain in their original status. On completion continue your journey to Ella.

Ella is blessed with some of the most beautiful views, you could find in Sri Lanka. Only 8 km from Bandarawela, this small town is used as a base for plenty of trekking expeditions to the surrounding countryside. A taste of the breathtaking scenery of Ella at the Garden of the Grand Ella Motel (Formerly Ella Rest House), where you seem to be standing at the edge of the world. Upon arrival check in to the hotel and relax.
Overnight accommodation at Oak Ray Ella Gap, Morning Dew or similar
After breakfast, proceed to Ahangama. En route visit The Nine Arches Bridge, one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers. On completion continue your journey to Ahangama.

Upon arrival check in to the hotel and relax by the beach or pool. Situated on the Southern coast of Sri Lanka, Ahangama is a great beach for a relaxing holiday.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at Garton’s Cape or similar
Day 6: Ahangama / Galle / Ahangama
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to visit Dutch Galle Fort.
(Approx Travel time from Ahangama to Galle: 30 to 40 minutes drive)
Galle is a coastal town where the Dutch presence is still visible. Galle was an ancient port (said to be the legendary Tarshish of the Bible), and the first international commerce and trade centre. Today, Galle is the bustling provincial capital and administrative centre of the south. It is famous for its lovely Unawatuna Bay, where the sea is reef protected and therefore safe for swimming. The old Dutch “Star Fort” (a World Heritages Site) covering 36 hectares, the well-preserved Groote Kerk (Dutch Church), Dutch Government House, the New Oriental Hotel (built in 1684) old bell tower and a tide-based Sewage-System, also introduced by the Dutch. In Galle they still make the Dutch ‘pillow-lace’ and do fine ebony carving and gem polishing. On completion return to the hotel and free for leisure.

Day 8, 10 or 12: Depart
