Full day excursion to Sinharaja Rainforest

The Sinharaja Rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the last remaining rainforest in Sri Lanka and is home to most of Sri Lanka's birds, giant butterflies and more than 50% of endemic mammals.
Practical information:
Please note:
- This is leech country, so all guests will be equipped with anti-leech socks, ideal for forest walks in the undergrowth.
- Due to the density of the forest, mammals can be harder to spot; of the 40 species listed, you're likely to see giant squirrels, mongooses, purple-faced langurs, wild boar and barking deer.
- Rarer species include rusty spotted cat, fishing cat, Indian civet, porcupine and leopard. Leopards are only occasionally seen, although evidence of their presence is easier to find.
- There are unconfirmed reports of a "panther" or black leopard in the jungle.

On this excursion, you'll visit a turtle hatchery and Galle's famous harbour! The hatchery is considered the best place to see giant tortoises and their babies and is equipped with Hasselblad cameras.
Galle is the port where the Portuguese first landed in Sri Lanka in the 16th century. Fortified by the Dutch, who ruled maritime Sri Lanka in the 17th and 18th centuries, the town retains an old Holland feel with its churches, monuments, fort and ramparts, as well as picturesque Dutch houses and narrow streets that still bear Dutch names.
