The Lumiares sits at the heart of all of this, nestled proudly on top of the hill in Bairro Alto, boasting fantastic rooftop views across to the River Tagus on one side and the Castelo de São Jorge on the other. Bairro Alto is the bohemian and cultural heart of Lisbon, with its eclectic mix of cafés, galleries, shops and museums right on the doorstep. Opposite the hotel is the stunning Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara – a garden terrace with panoramic views across the city. Turn right and head down the hill towards Chiado, past the independent shops selling everything from fashion and high end shoes to sardines, soaps and chocolates. At the bottom of the hill opposite the Cais do Sodré train station you will find the famous Mercado de Ribeira – otherwise known as the “Time Out market” - with its wonderful mix of regional food and wines from across Portugal.
