Entry Requirements 


You must ensure you have a valid passport to travel on. 


If your passport describes you as a British Citizen, you don’t need a visa to enter Panama unless you are arriving by sea. You must have a return or onward ticket and the equivalent of US$500 or a credit card.


If you enter Panama by land from Costa Rica and are not a legal resident of Costa Rica, the immigration authorities may ask you to show proof of onward or return travel to your country of legal residence.


If you arrive in Panama by sea, except via a cruise line, you will need a visa. There is a fee of $100 plus $5 registration per person for passengers and crew members of vessels.


If you choose a flight which routes via the USA and are travelling under the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), you must obtain an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) prior to departure. Passengers who have not received travel authorisation via ESTA prior to travel will be denied boarding. Please note that if you are denied from boarding, or are not allowed into the US for any reason, you will still be subject to our cancellation charges in accordance with our terms and conditions. 


Airport tax


A US$40 airport tax (payable only in cash) is charged on departure. This is usually included in the airline ticket fare. Check with your carrier.

Malaria and dengue fever are common throughout the year in parts of Panama, including some outlying areas of Panama City.


UK health authorities have classified Panama as having a risk of Zika virus transmission. For information and advice about the risks associated with Zika virus, visit the National Travel Health Network and Centre website.


Cases of Chikungunya virus have been confirmed in Panama and the number of reported cases in the region is increasing. You should take steps to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

From 4am on 15 January, visitors who have been in or transited through Panama in the previous 10 days cannot enter the UK. British and Irish nationals, and third country nationals with residence rights in the UK arriving in the UK from Panama will need to self-isolate along with their households on their return.

Travel to Panama is subject to entry restrictionsEntry to Panama is closed to anyone, with the exception of Panamanian nationals and residents that has been in either the United Kingdom or South Africa within 20 days of their arrival in the country. 

Entry to Panama is open to tourists and business travelers who have a negative COVID19 PCR test certificate and who have not spent time in the United Kingdom or South Africa in the 20 days prior to their arrival. The test must be taken no more than 48 hours before you travel. If you cannot do this, a test can be taken at the airport on arrival at a cost of USD 50.00. If the test is positive, there is a mandatory requirement to quarantine for at least 7 days at a government facility.
