Day 2: Whale Watching Tour
Departure: 8:00 am
Return: 4.30 pm
Meeting point: 15 minutes before departure at the pier to the side of Skarven Kro Restaurant in Tromso (Kaigata 6).
Rise and shine ready for your first excursion. Head out in the Arctic morning light to Skjervoy, a northern municipality less than 3 hours from Tromso, and the winter feeding place of hungry Humpbacks and Orcas. Enjoy fresh pastries and hot coffee aboard the comfortable ship, and admire spectacular views of snow-covered landscapes, the Lyngen Alps, islands, fjords, and fishing villages. Try and spot white-tailed eagles, Europe's largest bird of prey, porpoises, and other marine life as a professional guide explains the marvelous views.
As the boat approaches the whales, a silent electric engine allows visitors to get close to these amazing animals without disturbing them, and an underwater drone captures the whales communicating. It should be noted that whales are wild animals, and constantly on the move. It is not always guaranteed that sightings will happen, but if the whales are far away a diesel engine will be used and switched to an electric cruising mode upon arrival at the whale site.
