Your Itinerary —
Day 1: Windhoek Airport - Etosha Sud
Namibia is a wonder for anyone thirsty for wild horizons. It is geographically surrounded to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the north by Angola, to the south by the Republic of South Africa, to the east by Botswana and to the northeast by Zimbabwe and Zambia. With its grandiose and varied landscapes, Namibia offers an adventure beyond all imagination.
Today one of the tourist consultants will meet you at Windhoek International Airport, give you the travel diary and assist you with the registration process.
Considered the pearl of Etosha, the Okaukuejo camp is the reserve's headquarters. Its watering holes attract visitors from all over the world. The morning walks around this camp will take you on the trail of the elephants of the savannah. Known for its large numbers of Black Rhinos and for its lion families, this part of Etosha is best enjoyed early in the morning or late afternoon.
Day 2: Taleni Etosha Village, Etosha Sud
The day is devoted solely to the abundant wildlife of Etosha National Park, which surrounds a dry salt lake known as Etosha Pan. The park is home to 4 of the Big Five - elephants, lions, leopards, and rhinos. The park was proclaimed Namibia's first conservation area in 1907. Despite the size of Etosha National Park, only the southern edge of the pan is accessible to visitors. In the park, game viewing is mainly concentrated around watering holes some of which are fed in the spring and others from a borehole, ideal places to observe 114 different game species and 340 species of birds.
There are popular animals such as giraffe, blue wildebeest, plains and mountain hyena, lion, leopard, antelopes such as kudu, oryx, eland, but also some endangered species such as black rhino, cheetah, and black-faced impala found here. An extensive network of roads connects more than 30 watering holes, allowing visitors to take part in a full game viewing safari throughout the park, with each area offering various meeting possibilities.
Day 3: Etosha - Twyfelfontein
After a relaxed breakfast, the flight continues south through the mountainous region of Damaraland to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Twyfelfontein. In the afternoon, accompanied by your ranger, you will go in search of the desert elephants that live in this semi-arid environment. Here you will have the opportunity to take memorable photos of these gentle giants in an unprecedented natural landscape.
Day 4: Twyfelfontein - Swakopmund
After seeing the majestic mountains of Damaraland from the sky, pass the Brandberg, Namibia's highest mountain, and fly over endless desert plains to the coastal town of Swakopmund. After your arrival, you have a little time at your disposal. Dinner can be enjoyed in one of the excellent restaurants in the coastal town (not included).
Day 5: Swakopmund
A transfer takes you to Walvis Bay where you embark on a catamaran cruise to explore the marine life around the lagoon and harbor of Walvis Bay. You may have the opportunity to see pelicans, seals, dolphins, and even during a whale and turtle season! Around 12:30 pm, return to the waterfront of Walvis Bay where a guide will board you in a 4×4 for the excursion to Sandwich Harbor.
Weather and tides permitting, you will be driven straight into Sandwich Harbor Lagoon. Wedged between sea and dunes, Sandwich Harbor is a freshwater seaside resurgence. If vehicles cannot drive all the way down the beach to get to Sandwich Harbor because of the high tide, you will have a chance to see the lagoon area from one of the many magnificent viewpoints located at the top of the towering dunes and you will have time to walk and explore the area. There will be plenty of time to stop to take photos.
Lunch is served on the waterfront or at the top of the dunes, allowing you to enjoy endless scenery. The return route will take you through the typical flora and fauna of the region, as well as a salt mine. Animals that have developed ways of adapting to the desert include the jackal, gecko, springbok, oryx, brown hyena, and ostrich. After reaching Walvis Bay Pier, you are transferred to your hotel in Swakopmund.
Day 6: Namib Desert
The Namib Desert is a hot coastal desert, stretching south from the Orange River on the border between South Africa and Namibia to the Kunene River on the northern border with Angola. It is considered the oldest desert in the world, having been subjected to arid or semi-arid conditions for at least 55 million years. The most spectacular part is located southwest of Windhoek with the Sossusvlei dunes.
Due to the permanent absence of water on the surface, the humidity brought by sea mist plays a vital role for the organisms living in this desert. Many reptiles (lizards, geckos) and small rodents (gerbils, moles, etc.), some of which are endemic, live there. Large mammals are rare, the only species adapted to this harsh environment being the oryx and the springbok. Among the predators, we find spotted hyenas and brown hyenas and jackals. Several species have found ways of adapting to the desert.
Fly over the Kuiseb River and endless star dunes in the heart of the Namib Desert at Sesriem, gateway to Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei. Free afternoon to enjoy the hotel facilities or take an optional nature excursion to explore the desert surrounding your lodge.
Day 7: Namib Desert
Departure at sunrise. Upon entering Namib Naukluft National Park, the first rays of the sun transform the mountains of sand into a variety of apricots, reds, and oranges, contrasting with a clear blue horizon, delighting your senses and offering the opportunity to capture this impressive landscape in a photograph. You will be captivated by Deadvlei, surrounded by some of the highest dunes in the world and Sossusvlei. Take the opportunity to climb one of these majestic dunes and admire the desert landscape below.
