From there, drive to your accommodation in Windhoek (Distance: 43.2 km, Travel time: 33 minutes). The hotel is situated in a serene residential area near the city center, renowned for its blend of Afro-European charm and tranquil ambiance.
After checking in, you'll have ample time to explore Namibia's capital city. Recommended sights include the iconic "Christus Kirche," "Tintenpalast," and "Alte Feste," or take a leisurely stroll through picturesque streets adorned with craft markets. In the evening, indulge in authentic Namibian cuisine at one of the city's many excellent restaurants.
Day 2 - 5
DAY 2: WINDHOEK - KALAHARI DESERT
Distance: 243 km - Travel time: 2 hours and 38 minutes
Breakfast, Dinner
After a leisurely breakfast, you head south into the Kalahari Desert. The Kalahari is a vast semi-desert of wind-blown sand which is held by a thin layer of thorny bushes, making it the most extensive continuous expanse of sand covering a total of 9 African countries. Unlike other true deserts, rain falls irregularly in the Kalahari. For many, "thirsty land" is therefore a more fitting description. The lack of permanent surface water makes the Kalahari a challenging place to live, except for those who have adapted. The Indigenous peoples call it the "Soul of the World", a poignant description for this area! With its deep red dunes and endless grassy plains interspersed with acacias and shrubs, it is still home to a surprisingly large number of animals.
DAY 3: KALAHARI DESERT
Breakfast, Dinner
During your stay, enjoy a free day in the dune landscape or head out and take the opportunity to experience the red dunes, wildlife and plants in this desert environment.
DAY 4: KALAHARI DESERT - NAMIB DESERT
Distance: 301 km - Travel time: 3 hours 51 minutes
Breakfast
Enjoy a hearty breakfast while watching meerkats play before heading west to the second desert on your safari. You'll travel across vast open plains and stop for an optional lunch (not included) in the rural town of Maltahöhe before continuing along the Tiras mountain range to your lodge in the Namib Desert. The lodge is close to Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei, and Sesriem Canyon, with some of the highest dunes in the world and towering above the white desert plains. You can spend the afternoon relaxing by the sparkling pool or enjoying the vast open desert plains.
DAY 5: NAMIB DESERT
Breakfast
The morning calls for an early start if you don't want to miss the sunrise with stunning views of the dunes. Today you have the chance to drive into Namib Naukluft National Park. The first rays of the sun paint the sand mountains in a hue of apricot, red, and orange, set against a crisp blue skyline. You will be fascinated by the surreal Deadvlei, surrounded by some of the highest dunes in the world, and Sossusvlei, where the dry Tsauchab River ends abruptly between the dunes.
Take the opportunity to walk up one of these majestic dunes and admire the desert landscape below. Then descend along the rocks into Sesriem Canyon. Anyone not aware that this canyon is here could easily miss this canyon, 30 metres deep in places and a kilometer long, carved by the Tsauchab River. Early settlers had to tie six (Ses) leather straps (rieme) together to reach the water at the bottom of the canyon. Speaking of water - a welcome keyword in this desert heat! When you return, there is an inviting and refreshing pool or you can opt for a cooling drink to end the day on a nice note.
Day 6 - 8
DAY 6: NAMIB DESERT - SWAKOPMUND
Distance: 365 km - Travel time: 4 hours 48 minutes
Breakfast
After another spectacular sunrise in Swakopmund, you travel through a rugged but liberating landscape to Swakopmund. Your family-friendly guesthouse is located in a quiet residential area of Swakopmund. Arriving in Swakopmund, you are free to spend the rest of the day at leisure.
DAY 7 & 8: SWAKOPMUND
Breakfast
With palm-lined streets and seaside promenades, Swakopmund is a very popular holiday destination in Namibia. Its pleasant summer climate and elongated beaches attract fishermen and surfers from all over southern Africa. For the international tourist, Swakopmund is a bohemian mix of German correctness and African atmosphere, with a laid-back attitude with adrenaline-packed activities, misty mornings, and desert heat.
It's colourful, it's vibrant, but above all it's fun. Swakopmund is therefore affectionately called the "playground of Namibia", with countless activities to do. Enjoy the relaxed pace of this idyllic coastal town over coffee and freshly baked pastries in one of its many cafés. Take your time to soak up the atmosphere of this quaint town with its historic buildings, museums, shopping arcades and beach bars that have been given personality by the vibrant use of colour.
Day 9
DAY 9: SWAKOPMUND - ERONGO MOUNTAINS
Distance: 191 km - Travel time: 2 hours and 24 minutes
Breakfast
The journey continues to the Erongo region. En route, divert your journey via the Erongo mountain range, and visit a living museum to learn and participate in some Namibian ancient skills. Travel on to the charming town of Omaruru with its street cafes, souvenirs, Erongo mountain winery, and Kristall Kellerei, both located on the outskirts of town amidst the bush landscape. When you arrive at your guesthouse on the banks of the Omaruru River, you will immediately feel welcome and at home. DAY 12: ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK - ETOSHA (EAST)
Distance: 179 km - Travel time: 2 hours and 52 minutes
Breakfast, Dinner
Today you will set off for the other side of Etosha National Park. Despite the size of Etosha National Park, only the southern edge of the pan is open to visitors. The family-friendly lodge where you eventually arrive offers special guided bush walks aimed at children, teaching them about all the highlights of environmental protection and conservation.
DAY 13: ETOSHA (EAST)
Breakfast, Dinner
You have the whole day at your disposal to explore the area and wildlife extensively. An extensive network of roads connects the park's more than 30 water sites, allowing visitors to enjoy an extensive safari through the park.
