Your Itinerary in Detail —
Day 1-2
Day 1: Welcome to Namibia! Upon arrival at the Windhoek International Airport, you will be welcomed by our Abenteuer Afrika Safari Representative who will hand over your travel documentation, go through your itinerary and routing with you and answer any remaining questions you might have.
Then you can visit Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, which is located in a basin between the Khomas Highland, Auas and Eros Mountains. It is 1,680m above sea level, 650km north of the Orange River and 360km from the Atlantic sea. Whether due to pure luck or a brilliant stroke of Germanic planning, the city is situated in almost the country's epicentre. This location has obvious benefits when it comes to governing a country the size of Namibia, and also makes it the ideal place to start and plan any Namibian travel.
Day 2: Head to Sesriem Canyon, a deep chasm carved through the rocks by water, is a striking natural feature of the area that is best explored on foot. Stony walls rise up sharply on both sides of the canyon, while birds roost in its crags and lizards dart along the ledges. The canyon’s name was coined when early settlers used it as a water source, using six lengths of leather (‘ses riem – six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the base of the canyon.
Day 3-4
Day 3: Enjoy an early start from the Lodge to enter the Namib-Naukluft Park at sunrise, while the temperature is still mild and when the dune contrasts are at their best. You will travel in one of our all-terrain URI Gameviewer vehicles, custom-built in Namibia for the Lodge, with your own specially trained guide who will share all his knowledge of the area, animals, plant life and much more with you.
Regular stops are made on the spectacular ±60 kilometre drive through the dune corridor down to the Vlei to gain information or take in the vistas. At Dune 45, we make a stop to view the world's most photographed dune. Further along, a gradual 2,6-kilometer round-trip guided walk up to Dead Vlei is a must for keen visitors. The more energetic have the opportunity to climb to the upper ridge of Big Daddy Dune, one of the highest dunes in this area! We spend time exploring Sossusvlei before returning to the Lodge approximately 5½ hours later in time for lunch.
Day 4: Experience a total change of scenery on the Atlantic coast of the country: the German coasts of the North Sea and the Baltic are as if transplanted on African soil. Relax in the cool of the palm-lined streets, seaside promenades, beautiful beaches and numerous recreational activities. Sandboarding, quad biking, sand yachting, skydiving, hot air ballooning, deep-sea fishing and angling on the beach, everyone will find what they are looking for.
Day 5
Day 5: Enjoy some optional excursions such as the Laramon Tours Sandwich Harbour 4x4 Tour! Or spend the day discovering Swakopmund at your own pace.
Day 6-8
Day 6: Located just south of the boundary of Etosha National Park in north-western Namibia, Etosha South makes up the southern region of this wild paradise. The national park can be accessed via the southern entrance at Andersson’s Gate. Visitors can catch a glimpse of a variety of wildlife including: lions, giraffes, elephants, white and black rhinos, and a multitude of plains game. Popular activities include: game drives, tracking rhinos on foot, guided nature walks, or watch the sunset over this magnificent landscape.
Day 7: Why not enjoy a tour of Etosha National Park with a Day Game Drive!
Day 8: Your journey through Namibia has come to an end and it's time to head back to the airport!
