Classic Discover Namibia 8-Night Fly-Drive Itinerary
Day 1: Windhoek International Airport - Otjiwarongo (Breakfast)
Namibia is a wonder for anyone thirsty for wild horizons. It is geographically surrounded to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the north by Angola, to the south by the Republic of South Africa, to the east by Botswana and to the northeast by Zimbabwe and Zambia. With its grandiose and varied landscapes, Namibia offers an adventure beyond all imagination.
Today one of the tourist consultants will meet you at Windhoek International Airport, give you the travel diary and assist you with the registration process. Departure on the B1, heading due north, to reach Otjiwarongo. Crossing of Okahandja, a small town famous for its craft market specializing in wooden objects. Continuation to Otjiwarongo, which means "the land of fat cattle", the beginning of the region of cultivation and breeding which stretches north-east towards Caprivi.
Overnight at Frans Indongo Lodge
Frans Indongo Lodge is located northeast of Otjiwarongo and northwest of Waterberg Mountain. It is therefore perfectly suited as a stopover on your journey from Windhoek to Etosha, in the Far North, in Bushmanland or in Caprivi. Relax on the poolside terrace and watch Black Hippotragus Antelope, Springboks and other Nyala quenches their thirst at the nearby waterhole. Day 2: Otjiwarongo - South Etosha (Breakfast)
Head out on the road towards Etosha Park via Outjo, towards the entrance called Anderson gate. Suggestion: Safari at the end of the afternoon in your vehicle, the best hours of the day when the animals, crushed by the heat and the sun, finally start to live again. Cohort of animals heading towards the waterholes, dust in the setting sun, dazzling images of beauty.
Overnight at Taleni Etosha Village

Day 4: Etosha - Damaraland (Breakfast and Dinner)
Road towards Vingerklip. Suggestion: Discovery on the road between Khorixas and Outjo du Vingerklip: the 'stone finger', a strange rock formation 35 m high whose primitive form has been gradually reduced by erosion.
Overnight in Vingerklip Lodge
Day 5: Vingerklip - Swakopmund (Breakfast)
Road to Twyfelfontein. Suggestion: Twyfelfontein: In the heart of Damaraland, this parietal site and its hundreds of rock engravings constitute an essential stage. Here, on a small red sandstone plateau at the foot of a source which was probably abundant for a time, a people who have now disappeared left for future generations an incredible bestiary engraved on the rock. Animals that have also disappeared or still exist, various footprints, abstract representations, are all witnesses of great cave art. The visit is accompanied by a local English-speaking guide. Allow +/- 2h30 of walking.
Road to Swakopmund. You will leave the magnificent landscapes of Damaraland, composed of inselbergs, isolated rocks in the shape of islands. After Uis, you start crossing the Namib Desert. You continue your journey discovering the Atlantic Ocean which slowly emerges on the horizon.
Swakopmund, a city with a long history and a popular seaside resort on the Atlantic Ocean for Namibians. Built at the start of German colonization to serve as a port, this particularly charming city, built according to the references of Germanic architecture, has retained its uniqueness over time and political changes. Afternoon at your leisure to visit the city.
Overnight in Swakopmund Sands Hotel
Day 6: Swakopmund - Namib Desert (Breakfast)
Road to the Namib Desert. Passage of the Col de la Gaub and the Col de la Kuiseb. Folded shale geological formation through which the Kuiseb river has carved an impressive canyon. This river marks the limit between the immense rocky plains of the north and the sea of sand which joins the Orange river. Passage of the Tropic of Capricorn between the 2 passes.
Solitaire is a small town in central Namibia near the Namib-Naukluft National Park. This hamlet, which has kept its character from the 1950s, is an almost compulsory stopping point. Particularly isolated, the place is sometimes nicknamed the Namibian Bagdad Café!
Suggestion: Located just 1.5 km from the campsite, the Elim dune is an ideal stopover when you arrive in Sesriem at the end of the afternoon (valid especially if you are spending the night at the campsite).
From Sesriem you can get there on foot. The song of the Geckos will accompany you, look at the ground, you will see small burrows there where they take refuge. From the top of the dune, the panoramic view is dazzling: a belt of red dunes to the west and a vast plain in pastel colors crossed by an imposing mountain range to the east. Allow +/- 2 hours of walking.
Optional: You can take a scenic safari on the lodge reserve in an open 4x4 vehicle with an English speaking guide
Overnight in The Elegant Desert Lodge
Day 7: The Elegant Desert Lodge, Namib Desert (Breakfast)
Suggestion: The visit of the Sossusvlei site and the Tsauchab valley will allow you to discover the central Namib and its giant dunes. Sossusvlei, is above all the terminus of a river which, a few thousand years ago, flowed into the Atlantic. Today the rain has disappeared and the river no longer has the strength to reach the ocean. The dunes, driven by the wind, gradually covered the valley. In some years, the water from the river joins the foot of the dunes and forms a lake in Sossusvlei. Visiting this site in the morning is, thanks to the play of lights on the dunes, dazzling.
Discovery of Dead Vlei, a dry lake whose whiteness of the sand contrasts with the red dunes. Magic show, where only a few thousand-year-old dead trees stand out against the backdrop. You will be rewarded for your efforts when you discover the panorama from the top of a dune.
Suggestion: Sesriem, entrance to Namib-Naukluft National Park South section. Sesriem Canyon, was a vital place for the Nama, Hereros and Damara peoples. This 50 m deep gorge was dug by the Tsauchab river. Sesriem means 6 thongs, which was necessary to raise the buckets of water from the throat. The presence of a permanent spring has aroused the envy of these different peoples over the centuries. Now inhabited mainly by birds, the source and the canyon are a place of excursion.
Suggestions: Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei, Sesriem Canyon
Day 8: Namib Desert - Kalahari Desert (Breakfast and Dinner)
Leaving Sesriem, your road takes you along the Nubib Mountains to the east of the Namib Desert, the passage of the "Zaris pass" offers you an aerial view of the crevices and grooves that make this place so special. The vastness of the plain on the heights of the Maltahöhe plateau offers a landscape as far as the eye can see. Road to the Kalahari Desert and the town of Mariental.
The arid and semi-arid sandy desert of the Kalahari is located between the basins of the Zambezi and Orange rivers, it covers a large part of Botswana and extends towards Namibia and South Africa over an area of approximately 900,000 km² . A part of this bushy desert becomes an excellent pasture after good rains. The Kalahari Basin covers an area of 2.5 million km2, covering parts of Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, as well as Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Kalahari is still home to the people of the Bushmans, who were the first inhabitants of southern Africa.

You will discover this desert, from dunes to dunes, and will be able to see the antelopes which shelter in the shade of the acacias. Superior Discover Namibia 8-Night Fly-Drive Itinerary
Day 1: Windhoek Okonjima Nature Reserve International Airport (Breakfast and Dinner)
Today one of the tourist consultants will meet you at Windhoek International Airport, give you the travel diary and assist you with the registration process. Road to the Okonjima reserve. The 96-kilometre fence surrounding the 22,000-hectare Okonjima private reserve was finally completed in 2010.
This fence created:
- a reserve of 20,000 hectares for the rehabilitation of captive carnivores (which also shelters hyenas and leopards);
- a “safe” area of 2,000 hectares around the main camp, the Bush Camp, the Bush Suite, the Omboroko campsite and the PAWS environmental education centre.
Although hunting is instinctive in carnivores, many AFRICAT cheetahs lack experience due to the loss of their parents or their estrangement from the wild. This inexperience, as well as their conditioning for captivity, makes them unfit for release. The 200 km (20,000 hectare) nature reserve offers cheetahs and other carnivores in captivity the opportunity to perfect their hunting techniques and become independent, giving them a chance to return to nature. Captive cheetahs are fitted with collars before they are released to the reserve, so that their well-being and progress can be closely monitored.
Rehabilitation gives a captive carnivore a second chance to be released into the wild and take the time necessary to become a fully independent hunter.
Overnight in Okonjima Plains Camp
Day 2: Okonjima - South Etosha (Breakfast and Dinner)
Road towards Etosha Park via Outjo, towards the entrance called Anderson gate. Considered the pearl of Etosha, the Okaukuejo camp is the reserve's headquarters. Its water point attracts visitors from all over the world. The morning walks around this camp will take you on the trail of the elephants of the savannah. Known for its large numbers of Black Rhinos and for its lion families, this part of Etosha is best enjoyed early in the morning or late afternoon.
Suggestion: Safari at the end of the afternoon in your vehicle, the best hours of the day when the animals, crushed by the heat and the sun, finally start to live again. Cohort of animals heading towards the waterholes, dust in the setting sun, dazzling images of beauty.
