Your Itinerary —
Upon arrival in Kotor, check-in to your cruise at 5 pm. Following a delicious welcome drink on board, we suggest a visit of Kotor's Old Town, where a helpful guide will show you around. Dinner will be held on board with an overnight stay in Kotor.
Kotor is a Unesco Heritage site, wedged between brooding mountains and the corner of the bay. Hemmed in by staunch walls snaking improbably up the surrounding slopes, the town is a medieval maze of museums, churches, cafe-strewn squares and Venetian palaces and pillories. It’s a dramatic and delightful place where the past coexists with the present; its cobblestones ring with the sound of children racing to school in centuries-old buildings, lines of laundry flutter from wrought-iron balconies, and hundreds of cats – the descendants of seafaring felines – loll in marble laneways. Come nightfall, Kotor's spectacularly lit-up walls glow as serenely as a halo; behind the bulwarks, the streets buzz with bars and live music – from soul to serenades – and castle-top clubbing.
No matter whether you enter Boka by land or by the sea - your experience will be the same - Boka will fascinate you! It looks as if the mountains have cracked and let the sea in. This is the southernmost fjord in Europe. The high mountains bend over the thin coastline thus protecting it from the severe climate of the north. That is why Boka is an oasis of Mediterranean vegetation: agave, palm, mimosa, oleander, kiwi, pomegranate, medicinal herbs. When its peaks are covered with snow, the roses bloom in the foothills. The bay is naturally divided into four smaller parts - Herceg Novi bay, Risan bay, Kotor bay and Tivat bay. The small towns, as treasures of history, art and beauty, are strung like pearls on its coastline.
Start sailing from Kotor at 12 am. From here, you will stop in Ljuta for swimming and lunch onboard the boat. Dinner will be held out in Herceg Novi, before an overnight stay in the area.
Standing at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor like an eager host, Herceg Novi welcomes visitors with bright bouquets, sparkling seas and almost-constant sunshine. Can’t find the party? Look down; it’s all happening in Stari Grad (the Old Town), a few dozen wonky steps below the main street. Though its shiny squares, elegant churches and formidable fortresses are centuries old, they're brought to life by the buzz of clattering cafes and the sound of pianos drifting from the windows of music schools. Further down, pebbly beaches and concrete terraces offer access to the bay’s best – and cleanest – swimming. Follow the pedestrian-only promenade and you’ll hit Igalo, famed for its therapeutic mud!
Start sailing from Herceg Novi at 10 am before stopping in Traste Bay for swimming and lunch on board the boat. In the afternoon, you will also stop for a swim in Trsteno Bay. Dinner will be held out in Budva before an overnight stay in the area.
Budva is the poster child of Montenegrin tourism. Easily the country’s most-visited destination, it attracts hordes of holidaymakers intent on exploring its atmospheric Stari Grad (Old Town), sunning themselves on the bonny beaches of the Budva Riviera and partying until dawn; with scores of buzzy bars and clanging clubs, it’s not nicknamed ‘the Montenegrin Miami’ for nothing!
Start sailing from Budva at 8 am, before stopping in Ulcinj for swimming and lunch on board the boat. We suggest paying a visit to Ulcinj. You will then enjoy an afternoon stop for swimming in Valdanos Bay before spending an overnight stay in Bar. We suggest visiting the Old Town Bar on this day.
Stari Bar - A small museum just inside the entrance explains the site and its history. From here, follow the green arrows around the major points of interest. In the western part of the town are the remains of St Nicholas’ Church, offering glimpses of Serbo-Byzantine frescoes. The northern corner has an 11th-century fortress with much-photographed views showcasing Stari Bar’s isolated setting amid mountains and olive groves. Nearby are also the foundations of St George's Cathedral! Originally a Romanesque church, it was converted into a mosque in the 17th century by the Turks, but the unlucky edifice was yet again in ruins after an accidental gunpowder explosion! If you’re wondering why St John’s Church is in such good nick, its because it’s been completely reconstructed by one of the families associated with the original church! One of the few other buildings to have an intact roof is St Verenada's Church, which contains a display of photography from the greater Bar area. Ottoman constructions include a solid and charming Turkish bathhouse from the 17th or 18th century, the clock tower (1752) and the 17th-century aqueduct that carried water from a spring 3km away; it was reconstructed after the 1979 earthquake.
For a taste of Albania without actually crossing the border, head down to buzzy, beautiful Ulcinj. The elegant minarets of numerous mosques give Ulcinj a distinctly Eastern feel, as does the lively music echoing out of the kebab stands around MalaPlaža (Small Beach). Ulcinj’s ramshackle Old Town looms above the heaving beach and is a fantastic spot for people-watching without being surrounded by people; if you’d rather take in an entirely different surrounding, the nearby Ulcinj Salinas is home to thousands of birds, including – surprisingly – flamingos.
Start sailing from Bar at 9 am before stopping for a swim in Pecin Bay. Stop in Sveti Stefan for swimming and lunch on board the boat. Your overnight stay will be in Bigova.
A fortified island village connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway, Sveti Stefan's photogenic jumble of 15th-century stone villas overlook an impeccable pink-sand beach and tempting turquoise waters. Sveti Stefan has unsurprisingly been named as Montenegro’s most photographed site!
Start sailing from Bigova at 9 am, before stopping near the Blue Cave for swimming and lunch on board in Zanjice Bay. In the afternoon, you will stop for a swim in Solila Bay. Your overnight stay will take place in Tivat. We suggest paying a visit to the Porto Montenegro in Tivat.
With bobbing superyachts, a posh promenade and rows of elegant edifices, visitors to Tivat could be forgiven for wondering if they're in Monaco or Montenegro. This previously mediocre seaside town has undergone a major makeover – courtesy of the multimillion-dollar redevelopment of its old naval base into a first-class marina. The town has a reputation as being one of the sunniest spots in Boka Kotorska. While Tivat will never rival Kotor for charm, it makes a pleasant stop on a trip around the bay and is a useful base for exploring the sweet villages of the Vrmac and Luštica Peninsulas.
Start sailing from Tivat at 10 am, before stopping at Sveti Marko island for swimming and lunch on board the boat. In the afternoon, stop for a swim in Risan Bay. We suggest visiting “Our Lady of the Rocks” and “Saint George Island”. In the evening, you will enjoy a Captain’s dinner on board the boat, before an overnight stay in Perast.
Perast is the homeland of many world-known sailors and a town whose destiny has always been related to the sea. In the past, it resembled Venice with which it had very lively trade and cultural links. There are a lot of remains of the old aristocratic palaces that now bear witness to its ancient splendour and richness. In one of them, the Bujevic’s palace, the Town Museum is located. There is a very interesting historical story that says the Russian soldiers used to come in Perast to learn sailing skills and that it was known as a cradle of the Russian fleet. There are two islets around Perast town – the Lady of the Rocks and Saint George Island, both unique tourist attractions. Risan is famous for the remnants of the classical culture. The remains of a Roman patrician’s villa with mosaic floors as beautiful as those made in Roman period can be found here.
