Dobra Voda —
Dobra Voda, tucked along Montenegro’s sun-drenched southern coast, offers a peaceful retreat where the Adriatic meets unspoilt Mediterranean landscapes. Just a short drive from Bar, this small seaside gem is known for its tranquil beaches, crystal-clear waters and laid-back charm. Surrounded by olive groves and rugged cliffs, it’s a place to slow down, breathe in the sea air and discover the quieter side of Montenegro’s Adriatic coast.
Must-sees:
- Veliki Pijesak Beach: The heart of Dobra Voda, a golden-sand cove with calm turquoise waters, ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
- Old Town of Bar: Only 15 minutes away, this beautifully preserved fortress city reveals centuries of history, from Roman ruins to Ottoman influences.
- Skadar Lake National Park: A short drive inland, this vast freshwater lake teems with birdlife and traditional fishing villages — a paradise for nature lovers.
- Olive Groves of Stari Bar: Visit Montenegro’s oldest olive tree, said to be over 2,000 years old, and taste the local olive oil at nearby family farms.
Culinary culture:
Montenegrin cuisine blends Mediterranean and Balkan flavours with an emphasis on freshness and simplicity. Enjoy grilled Adriatic fish, octopus salad or ćevapi, small spiced meat kebabs served with flatbread and ajvar. The region’s olive oil, cheese and local wine - particularly Vranac, a bold red - are staples of every table. End your meal with priganice, small fried dough pastries drizzled with honey, best enjoyed while watching the sun set over the sea.
Dive deeper:
Dobra Voda is an ideal base for exploring Montenegro’s contrasting landscapes - from the beaches of the southern coast to the mountain villages inland. Take a boat trip along the coast to discover hidden coves, or venture north to Budva and Sveti Stefan for a taste of the country’s glamorous side. Closer to home, the area offers scenic hiking trails through olive groves and along coastal cliffs, where the scent of pine and the sound of waves accompany every step.
Good to know:
Dobra Voda is around 1 hour from Podgorica Airport and 1 hour 30 minutes from Tivat Airport by car. The best time to visit is from May to October, when the Adriatic is warm and the region enjoys long, sunny days. The local currency is the euro (EUR).
