Herceg Novi is a picturesque coastal town located in the southwestern part of Montenegro, at the entrance to the stunning Bay of Kotor. Known for its natural beauty, Herceg Novi sits at the foot of Mount Orjen, offering breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea. The town is famous for its Mediterranean charm, with narrow cobbled streets, colorful buildings, and a vibrant, historic Old Town.
Must sees:
- Forte Mare: Visit Forte Mare, also known as the Sea Fortress, a striking historical landmark dating back to the 14th century. Admire the beautiful fort and the gorgeous views over the Bay of Kotor.
- Savina Monastery: Located a short distance from the town center, the beautiful monastery offers stunning bay views, as well as a fascinating heritage.

Culinary Culture:
Herceg Novi's culinary culture reflects its coastal location and climate with delicious Mediterrancean flavours. Being on the coast, seafood is a main staple here, with fresh fish, octopus, squid, and shellfish commonly found in many dishes. A balkan classic is ćevapi, which are small grilled sausages made from beef and lamb. Another traditional dish is Buzara, a delicious seafood stew made with shellfish, garlic, white wine, olive oil, and herbs.

Good to know:
The official language in Herceg Novi is Montenegrin, which is very similar to Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian. Most locals speak a bit of English as well. The official currency is the Euro (€). Herceg Novi is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, from the Adriatic Sea to the mountains. Respect the environment by not littering and staying on marked trails if you're hiking or exploring nature reserves.
